Melania Trump is about to partake in one of the longest-running traditions in New York.
On Monday, the first lady will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), according to Express.
Accompanying the President
While Melania Trump does not always travel with our president (she will often stay behind to take care of Barron), the first lady will be accompanying him at the United Nations General Assembly next week.
During the U.N. assembly, Melania Trump will be pushing her “Be Best” campaign, which concentrates on helping children by addressing online bullying and the opioid epidemic.
Mrs. Trump actually plans on having some children participating in the program accompany her to the NYSE to participate in the bell-ringing.
The ringing of the bell at the NYSE is a tradition that has been in place for more than a century.
This is an honor that is given to notable personalities, stars, and corporate executives. An appearance by a president or first lady — past or present — is rare, but it has taken place before.
Then-President Ronald Reagan visited the stock exchange in 1985 as a way to promote the administration’s economic plan.
As he rang the opening bell, Reagan stated: “We’re going to turn the bull loose!”
Melania will not be the first wife of a president to ring the bell, either. Laura Bush had the honor in 2006, as did Hillary Clinton in 2009.
Honestly, considering how good this administration has been for the stock market, it is amazing it took this long for the honor to be awarded.
Now, we can only hope the market has an incredible day to celebrate Melania ringing the bell!
