Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has stirred up a lot of trouble in Washington since the 2018 election. Now, she is setting up for a coup of the Democratic Party leadership.
She has been publically clashing with the old guard Democrats and it won’t end well for either party. Things are heating up in the Democratic Party.
Clash of old and new
Cortez represents a new wing of Democrats. They are defined by extreme views on progressivism. They are also radical in their opposition to conservatism.
This flies in the face of the old guard Democratic Party. While Democrats may be progressive overall, Cortez is taking it a step further.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly fired back at a not-so-subtle dressing down she and her left-wing colleagues received from Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “It got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful.”
Pelosi didn’t back down from these attacks, in fact, Pelosi has the backing of the majority. Ocasio-Cortez has a ways to go before she can garner the kind of backing that Pelosi boasts.
Fox News reports:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood her ground Thursday in response to New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claiming the speaker has been disrespectful to several minority lawmakers, saying she has the backing of her caucus and defending her handling of the rabble-rousing freshman ‘squad’ that Ocasio-Cortez leads.
Despite the odds, this isn’t stopping radical progressives from attempting a takeover. It is splitting the Democratic Party.
Fox News reports:
It seems Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might’ve gone too far this time — so much so that even some of the biggest Democrat defenders on television have turned on her.
Pelosi has both the Democratic Party and the culture behind her as well.
Tensions inside the caucus have simmered for some time, but the internal party fight spilled out into the open during debate over a border spending bill that passed the House last month.
Pelosi knows Ocasio-Cortez and her ilk will sink the Democratic Party. But Cortez has rising popularity behind her. This could split and ultimately destroy the Democrat party.
