Dianne Feinstein called out for not wearing mask at airport

During the last several months of the coronavirus pandemic, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has been one of the biggest advocates for a national mask mandate and mandatory masks for travel, even calling for the withholding of federal funds to states that don’t mandate masks.

This week, however, Feinstein was photographed breaking her own rules, traveling through the airport without a mask, Fox News reported.

Calls for mandatory masks

The effectiveness and use of masks to protect from the coronavirus has been debated throughout the pandemic.

At first, Americans were told not to wear them. Later, wearing a mask became strongly advised. Now, public opinion is divided on the issue and many see the choice whether or not to wear a mask as a political statement.

Regardless, many Democrats have been calling on President Donald Trump to issue a national mandate, but he has been firm in leaving the issue up to the states, Forbes reported.

Among the loudest voices in the Democratic Party calling for mandatory mask-wearing is Sen. Feinstein. She not only supports the idea of a national mandate but has demanded that masks be required during travel, specifically at airports and on planes.

“While some transit agencies and airlines have implemented mandatory mask guidance for the public, reports indicate that the patchwork of rules have only sowed confusion among passengers,” Feinstein wrote in a June letter to the Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Transit Administration. “Therefore, I ask that you issue clear, nationwide, mandatory mask requirements for all aviation employees and travelers.”

Good for thee but not for me

Feinstein, however, seems to operate in the “rules for thee but not for me” paradigm.

Another leading California Democrat who has called for a mask mandate, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, had her own moment of blatant hypocrisy when she was caught at a San Francisco hair salon breaking local mandates about indoor salons and not wearing a mask, Fox News reported. Pelosi refused to apologize for the incident, instead blaming the hair salon owner for a “set up.”

Like Pelosi, Feinstein was caught breaking her own rules. In fact, Feinstein is the only person shown in the video not wearing a mask.

The story gained widespread attention after the photos of Feinstein were aired on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday. Watch below:
