The mother of a U.S. Marine killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, last week has since spoken out to denounce the perceived disrespect she received from President Joe Biden during a subsequent ceremony.
After posting a series of critical statements on social media, Shana Chappell asserted that Instagram had wrongfully deleted her account.
“Due to Biden’s negligence”
“It seems Instagram took it upon themselves to delete my account because I am assuming it was because I gained so many followers over my [son’s] death due to Biden’s negligence, ignorance and him being a traitor!” she wrote. “You deleted my account because my [son’s] blood is on Biden’s hands!! Heroes’ blood is on Biden’s hands!!!!”
Chappell, whose son Kareem Nikoui was among the 13 U.S. service members killed at the Kabul airport on Thursday, has since had her Instagram account restored.
The Facebook-owned social media platform has since claimed that the account was “incorrectly deleted.”
Of course, many Americans seem to believe the more likely reason is that Facebook is working to protect Biden and the Democratic Party.
“We express our deepest condolences to Ms. Chappell and her family,” said a Facebook spokesperson. “Her tribute to her heroic son does not violate any of our policies. While the post was not removed, her account was incorrectly deleted and we have since restored it.”
Troubling trend continues
The statement declined to explain the cause of the supposed incorrect deletion, but it strikes some critics as an incredible coincidence that such an outspoken critic of the president saw her account taken down.
This is not the first such complaint regarding perceived social media censorship by Big Tech companies. Although accusations of bias against conservatives have been simmering for years, Facebook received particularly harsh criticism for going after the mother of a fallen Marine.
Despite the restoration of Chappell’s account, the incident serves to highlight a major concern among conservatives.
Many on the right assert that Facebook and other tech firms seek to silence political opinions and criticism of Democrats.
While Republicans are busy addressing the policies and actions of the Biden administration, this development serves as an important reminder among many conservatives that breaking up Big Tech titans is still a top priority.
