Congressional Republicans send evidence to FBI, DOJ on Hunter Biden ties to China, demand answers

It has been known for some time that Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been under federal investigation for, at the very least, tax issues related to his dubious foreign business dealings.

Now, however, according to congressional Republicans, those foreign business dealings and the individuals Hunter associated with may also be criminal in nature and pose a national security threat, the Washington Times reported.

Those Republicans — Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) — shared the damning information about Hunter and his Chinese associates in separate letters to the FBI and the U.S. Attorney in Delaware, respectively.

Hunter likely compromised by potential Chinese intelligence asset

The Washington Examiner reported that Rep. Comer, the ranking Republican on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray on Wednesday to both share information and demand answers about a former Hunter Biden business partner named JiaQi “Jackie” Bao, who is strongly suspected of having close ties to foreign intelligence services of the Chinese Communist Party.

According to the seven-page letter, Bao “provided Hunter insight into purchasing liquified natural gas reserves in the United States to sell to China, had access to the Biden family’s financial information, and liaised with CCP-affiliated agents on the Bidens’ behalf” — all as part of Biden’s dealings with Chinese energy firm CEFC.

Bao is further alleged to have had a personal relationship with Hunter beyond their professional ties, to have urged Hunter to encourage his father to run for president, and to have supplied the Bidens with campaign advice and opposition research on then-President Donald Trump, among other things.

“The FBI’s lack of interest in Biden family dealings is troubling,” the congressman concluded. “The national security threat of an [foreign intelligence services] gaining access to a presidential family’s sensitive information is too great to ignore.” Comer then demanded that the FBI turn over to committee Republicans any and all information it had regarding Bao and CEFC in relation to the Biden family.

Hunter’s bank records sent to U.S. Attorney

Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Sens. Grassley and Johnson, who have been digging into Hunter’s dubious business dealings for several years, also sent a letter as well as 200 pages of questionable bank records related to Biden and CEFC to U.S. Attorney David Weiss of Delaware, whose office has been investigating the president’s son.

That 232-page letter chastised the Justice Department for both dragging its feet in investigating Hunter Biden and for failing to respond to numerous prior inquiries from the senators.

With regard to the submitted records, the senators wrote, “If you are conducting a full and complete investigation, you should already possess these records. In the case that you are not and do not possess these records, we suggest that you review them in detail.”

GOP forcing the issue on Hunter

It had already been reported that the DOJ had enough evidence to indict Hunter Biden on tax issues related to his domestic and foreign business dealings, though, obviously, there is ample suspicion that the DOJ would be hesitant to move against the president’s son and has been stalling for time.

That is unlikely to work, however, as congressional Republicans are making it abundantly clear that there is indeed ample evidence of likely criminal behavior, if not glaring threats to national security, on the part of Hunter Biden, and they aren’t about to let a politicized DOJ cover that up or try to slide by with a slap on the wrist.
