Emails reveal Biden’s State Department’s incompetence in responding to evacuation requests

President Joe Biden’s botched withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan was a chaotic mess and display of gross ineptitude that resulted in thousands of U.S. citizens and Afghan allies being stranded in Taliban-controlled territory.

Now, a member of Congress who worked fervently to arrange the evacuation of a group of Afghan interpreters and their families has revealed just how utterly incompetent Biden’s State Department was during that crucial period of time, Breitbart reported exclusively.

Rep. Hice steps up

Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) shared email exchanges with Breitbart that revealed how terribly unhelpful the Biden administration was with regard to his attempt to secure the rescue of a group of 25 Afghan allies, which included seven Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants and their spouses and young children.

Numerous emails were sent to the State Department by Hice’s office, specifically from the congressman’s Chief of Staff Tim Reitz, that pleaded for assistance in getting that group of Afghans through the crowds surrounding Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) in Kabul so they could board a flight out of the country.

The emails from Reitz repeatedly warned of the special nature of the danger that faced these particular Afghans if abandoned, particularly given the Taliban’s proclivity for seeking brutal retribution against those who had rendered aid and assistance to American forces.

No assistance given

Unfortunately, according to Reitz, “All of the information we sent to State really just went into a black hole.”

Instead of helpful advice or assistance in arranging entrance to the airport and space on an evacuation flight, what Reitz received back from the State Department were generic responses denoting receipt of the requests or, more infuriatingly, confirmation that no help would be extended several days later, in some cases days after the entire evacuation and withdrawal operation had been concluded.

“Ultimately, this group never made it onto HKIA,” Reitz said. “They split into several smaller groups to make their way north to Uzbekistan or Tajikistan. That’s the last we’ve heard from them.”

In a statement to Breitbart, Rep. Hice said, “The shocking incompetence and ineptitude by the U.S. Department of State throughout the botched Afghanistan evacuation repeatedly failed Americans and our allies alike.”

“The agency was completely unprepared for the predictable flood of people desperately trying to flee horrific fates at the hands of the Taliban,” he added. “My office and I found time and time again that when minutes counted, State took days to respond — and when the responses eventually came, they were wildly unhelpful and totally ineffective even in the most urgent cases.”

Relatedly, the congressman lashed out at President Biden on Twitter with a flurry of tweets in response to Biden’s ghastly “victory” speech at the White House to mark the conclusion of any official U.S. presence in Afghanistan after nearly 20 years of conflict.

In response to Biden’s praise of Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the diplomatic efforts to assist in the evacuations, Hice wrote, “LIES!!! The State Department was an ENORMOUS part of the problem — they did virtually nothing to help! Our office had to work around State to save lives that the State Department REFUSED to help!”
