Elizabeth Warren vows to walk back Trump’s progress at the border: Report

One of Donald Trump’s top priorities as president has been making the country safer by securing the southern border. But now, one Democrat presidential hopeful wants to walk back all the progress he has made.

According to The Hill, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has released a plan promising to reverse Trump’s border protection policies, including ending the construction of his esteemed wall at the U.S.–Mexico border.

Also on Warren’s to-do list: decriminalize unauthorized border crossings, place substantial limits on federal immigration-related agencies, and do away with the “militarization” of the southern border — all while pouring millions if not billions in taxpayer funds into a variety of dubious initiatives in the border region.

She’s got a plan for that

In Warren’s broad proposal, titled “Justice for Border Communities,” the senator ties everything bad at the border to President Trump and his policies.

“Today the construction of Trump’s border wall is harming local communities along our borders,” Warren claimed, citing examples of environmental damage, intrusions on private property and tribal lands, and even the deaths of migrants attempting to enter the country as reasons to halt all further construction of the new-and-improved border barriers.

In addition to stopping construction of the wall, which she described as a “monument to hate,” Warren also proposed shifting any remaining funding for the structure toward research for treatment and vaccines to combat COVID-19, the coronavirus disease currently causing panic in America and around the world.

On top of that, the senator also proposed demilitarizing the southern border and sending home all military units currently assisting in border security measures. She also wants to essentially open all ports of entry, particularly by way of an “All Lanes Open Initiative” that would limit — or eliminate — wait times for those entering the U.S. by streamlining the process.

Demonizing and reforming

Perhaps just as bad as Warren’s proposal to throw open the flood gates is her promised crackdown on the men and women who serve as federal immigration enforcement officers, including for agencies like Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Indeed, under Warren’s proposal, which promises accountability “from top to bottom,” it is actually the agents who deal with border and immigration issues who would live and work in fear of running afoul of newly imposed rule changes. Indeed, instead of blaming policy-makers, Warren says even low-level agents should “held accountable” for their actions.

Of course, she didn’t have the same message of accountability toward the drug and human traffickers who illegally cross the border every day.

She’s not the only one

For his part, President Trump has invested quite a bit of time, energy, taxpayer money, and political capital in better securing our nation’s borders — but all of that would essentially go to waste if a Democrat is elected to succeed him this fall.

Indeed, while Warren’s plans are pretty terrible, just about any of the other Democratic candidates running for president would do the same things. Perhaps now more than ever it should be clear that, if you favor a secure border and knowing who’s entering our country on a day-to-day basis, there is no other choice in November except Donald Trump.
