U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) is in favor of impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his mishandling of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Gonzales indicated as much during a recent interview that he did with Breitbart News.
"From restricting ICE’s deportation authorities to exploiting the parole program, he will stop at nothing to get around our immigration laws," Gonzales said.
The congressman added, "The Biden administration has tried every trick in the book to create a back door avenue for illegal immigrants."
This comes amid an effort by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives to impeach Mayorkas. In fact, it appears that an impeachment vote may be held at some point this week.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is leading the impeachment effort. She introduced a privileged resolution to impeach Mayorkas last Thursday.
"10 MILLION illegals have invaded our country under Mayorkas and Biden, Drugs are pouring in. American women and children are trafficked. Terrorists are infiltrating America," Greene wrote in a statement that she released on X.
She added, "That's not leadership. That's not a job well done, pat on the back. That's Mayorkas breaking the law by not enforcing the law. IMPEACH."

As stated, Greene's impeachment resolution is privileged, meaning that it has to be acted upon by Congress within two days of its being introduced. It now appears that a vote on whether or not to impeach Mayorkas will likely be held this week.
"A senior House Republican leadership source says the House will likely hold a vote Tuesday on impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Fox is told to expect a straight up or down vote on a privileged resolution to impeach Mayorkas, which Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced Thursday morning," Fox News reports.
The outlet adds, "The source suggested it would be unlikely a motion to table or set the measure aside is introduced."
It is unclear whether or not there is currently enough support in the House to impeach Mayorkas. But, we should find out soon enough.
In the meantime, Greene continues to advocate for impeachment. On Monday morning, she wrote, "10 MILLION illegals have invaded our country since Biden took office. Drugs are pouring in. American women and children are trafficked. Terrorists are infiltrating our country. Mayorkas is breaking the law and he must be IMPEACHED."
