The left has wanted to get Tucker Carlson fired from Fox News for some time now — and they have him in their sights again.
In an article from Newsweek that reads more like a propagandistic press release from the far-left, Fox-hating activists at Media Matters, the formerly reputable media outlet called attention to the “#FireTuckerCarlson” hashtag trending on Twitter and also published a handy list of Carlson’s top advertisers.
Carlson’s comments on white supremacy
Carlson’s comments about “white supremacy” on Tuesday’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in the wake of the El Paso and Dayton shootings were the trigger for the latest round of attacks. The El Paso shooter reportedly held anti-immigrant views — and Democrats lost no time in putting the blame on President Donald Trump and Republicans.
While defending Trump against these accusations, Carlson noted that the threat posed by white supremacists is being exaggerated by the left for political purposes. “If you were to assemble a list, a hierarchy of concerns of problems this country faces, where would white supremacy be on the list? Right up there with Russia probably,” Carlson said in his Tuesday night monologue.
“It’s actually not a real problem in America. The combined membership of every white supremacist organization in this country would be able to fit inside of a college football stadium,” Carlson added. “This is a hoax. Just like the Russia hoax. It’s a conspiracy theory used to divide the country and keep a hold on power.” For this, Carlson was pilloried in the press.
Newsweek joins Media Matters campaign against Carlson
Left-leaning news watchdog Media Matters, as well as the leftist MoveOn.org and Sleeping Giants, a boycott-organizing group, have set their sights on Carlson and launched targeted campaigns against the businesses that still advertise on Carlson’s program. (Media Matters, founded by David Brock, has a long history of opposing conservatives, and Fox News in particular. As a side note, one of its current stated goals is to “successfully execute and complete Phase 2 of campaign to neutralize/undermine Fox News’ destructive power.”)
Newsweek dutifully did its part to further the effort and, after noting the success that past boycott and pressure campaign efforts against Carlson’s advertisers had seen, provided its readers with a list of the top advertisers still running commercials during Carlson’s show.
On top of that, Newsweek also included a link to a petition demanding advertisers shun Carlson — as well as fellow Fox News host Laura Ingraham — along with a link to a complete list compiled by Media Matters of all of Carlson’s — and other Fox hosts’ — advertisers.
Fox has defended Carlson in the past
Fox News has previously defended Carlson against prior boycott efforts by expressing support for Carlson. But the unrelenting pressure and incessant smears from the left is no doubt growing wearisome.
Carlson himself responded to the backlash by asking Washington and the media to “please, for the sake of the nation, calm down.” Noting that America does have problems, including racism, debt, and drug addiction, he said:
This is a hard time for America. But this country is not on the brink of genocide. It’s not even close to that. This is not a white supremacist country plotting the slaughter of its own people. It’s a kind country, full of decent people of all races, who, like all people everywhere, make bad decisions from time to time. But they mean well, and they generally try their best.
So going forward, give them the benefit of the doubt. Even when you disagree with them. Maybe especially when you disagree with them.
There’s been a tremendous response to last night’s show. The left wants to silence us. They won’t. Here’s a portion of our response from tonight’s show. Watch this video and watch #FoxNews at 8pm ET for more. pic.twitter.com/bMRdIeC33b

This effort to silence Tucker Carlson is un-American and disturbing, and the once-great Newsweek’s foray into serving as a mouthpiece for leftist propaganda is shameful.
