Fox News’ Ed Henry doing well after donating part of liver to sister

Other than the parental bond, there may be no bond stronger than that of siblings.

When Ed Henry found out his sister’s only hope for survival was a new liver, he unselfishly decided to donate a part of his liver so that she may continue to live, Fox News reports.

Selfless Act

When Ed Henry found out his sister needed a new liver, it was a no-brainer decision for him. If he could help her with his liver, he would.

As far as he was concerned, the risk to him was minimal, yet the benefit to his sister was literally life-changing.

Henry stated: “The fact is that the risk of mortality for me is extremely low – less than 1 percent, according to the doctors.”

He went on: “I will gladly take on the small risk of what the paperwork I signed at the hospital last week calls a ‘large midline incision’ for the gigantic reward of having my sister around for a very long time.”

After the surgery was done, doctors seemed very positive that both patients have a long life ahead of them. While still recovering in the hospital, reports were that both patients were doing very well.

Ed Henry was reportedly up and walking about. He even ventured to his sister’s room, where the two shared an apple juice toast to celebrate.

Now the Recovery

Colleen Henry’s recovery will no doubt be far more challenging than that of her brother.

Assuming her body does not reject the liver, she will still have a long road ahead of her before she will truly be able to have confidence in her new liver.

While there has been an outpouring of support for her, it is likely she will need financial help to get through this ordeal.

Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page in an effort to help Colleen get the funding she will need so that she can recover stress-free.

In less than a week, the page has garnered more than $81,000 of the $100,000 goal.
