Report: Dozens of migrants arrested in Texas as concerns mount over Biden’s lax border policies

Many feared President Joe Biden’s lax stance on immigration would serve as an invitation for migrants to come to the United States — and it looks like those concerns are already proving warranted.

According to an exclusive report from Breitbart, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents arrested dozens of migrants after they were discovered crossing into Texas on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the CBP said more than 90 individuals, many suspected to be from Haiti, were arrested near Del Rio in the Lone Star State just after 9 a.m. Saturday, Breitbart reported.

Another group of migrants was said to have been stopped prior to crossing the border by Mexican police.

Crossing the border

According to Breitbart’s reporting, news of the arrests was first revealed by an anonymous source who said that authorities in the United States were tipped off about the group of migrants by immigration officials in Mexico.

Mexican officials reportedly told American agents to be on the lookout for individuals trying to cross the border on charter buses — and that appears to be exactly what happened in this case.

According to Breitbart, it’s likely that more migrants from Haiti will follow suit in the coming weeks.

Biden’s big moves

It all comes as the Biden administration is making big moves in the realm of immigration. In addition to halting work on his predecessor’s famed border wall, the president has also promised a path to citizenship to immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally, and he’s tried to implement a 100-day moratorium on deportations.

That effort was shot down by a federal judge, at least temporarily, after the attorney general of Texas brought a lawsuit against the Biden administration, Breitbart reported separately.

With that, it remains unclear what fate has in store for the migrants recently apprehended in Texas. For now, they’re being held in custody in Del Rio, Breitbart notes, as they undergo processing by border agents, but it remains to be seen whether they could face deportation.

What is known, however, is that attempted border crossings are on the rise — and even those in Biden’s inner circle are starting to get worried. According to The New York Times, White House officials are said to be concerned “that major policy changes enacted hastily could inspire a huge surge of migrants to the southwest border, overwhelming American enforcement and asylum-processing resources.” What’s more, critics say allowing migrants to enter the country amid a pandemic could pose a major risk to public health.

Sadly, this White House has already sent a message that America’s borders are all but open despite the risks — and it’s quickly becoming clear that the message has been received.
