Donald Trump says 'hush money' trial was 'very hard' on wife Melania

Donald Trump shared his wife Melania's reaction to his "hush money" trial, saying the sordid spectacle was "very hard" on her.

Trump shared the comments in his first full-fledged interview since being branded a "convicted felon" in the polarizing case, which Trump has dismissed as a political witch hunt.

The salacious trial included testimony from porn star Stormy Daniels, who described her alleged sexual encounter with Trump in graphic detail.

Trump shares Melania's reaction

While the judge permitted Daniels to share salacious, prejudicial testimony, Trump was placed under a gag order.

"And I'm not even allowed to defend myself," he added. "Because of a gag order. Think of it. But they put this stuff in to create havoc. These are bad people. I know everything they're doing. I know every move they make."

Despite his anger with the trial, Trump said it has been "tougher on my family."

"She's fine, but I think it's very hard for her," he said of Melania. "She's fine. But she has to read all this c--," he said.

Speculation has surrounded Melania's reaction, as she was absent from court and has yet to share a response to her husband's guilty verdict.

“I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time,” Trump said. "They do that for this reason. They do that - all these salacious names that they put in of these people."

Melania angry

Trump also shared praise for his only child with Melania, 18-year-old Barron Trump.

“He’s tall, good-looking, he’s a very good student,” he said. “He’s applied to colleges and gets into everywhere he goes, you know? He’s very sought after from the standpoint. He’s a very smart guy."

Trump is due to be sentenced on July 11, days before the Republican National Convention. He told Fox that he would be "ok" with going to prison.

"I think it would be tough for the public to take," he said. "You know, at a certain point there's a breaking point."

Trump's lawyers have vowed to appeal, citing Daniels' salacious testimony and other issues that prevented Trump from receiving a fair trial. Despite her silence, Melania shares her husband's anger with the trial which she views as a "political assassination," sources told People.
