Joe Biden may not be in bad health for a 77-year-old, but that does not mean he is good health. Despite a glowing review from Biden’s personal physician, others aren’t so sure.
Dr. David Scheiner, Barack Obama’s longtime personal doctor, recently flipped the narrative, revealing that Biden may not be as healthy as everyone thinks. “[Biden] is not a healthy guy. He’s not in bad shape for his age, but I wouldn’t say he’s in outstanding health,” Scheiner said, according to the Washington Examiner.
Hiding in plain sight
The way these candidates get away with hiding information about their health is by having their doctors release a letter that just glosses over any problems they have — if it even mentions them at all.
In Joe Biden’s case, his irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol, and history of brain aneurysms were barely touched upon, but these could lead to some serious problems.
Joe Biden is clearly more susceptible to a heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems with this medical history, but his doctor has done nothing but paint a rosy picture of his health.
Scheiner suggested that President Donald Trump may have done something similar, with his doctor offering a somewhat optimistic health outlook for the commander-in-chief, some argue.
Time for change
For what it’s worth, the presidency today is far more complex than it has ever been. The office has always been stressful, but today’s climate makes it even more so.
As such, the people of this country have a right to know the actual details of the health of the individuals running for office — especially if that candidate is of advanced age like Biden.
If a candidate is likely to suffer a heart attack or some other major health issue, don’t the voters have the right to know about it? After all, they are voting on the policies of this person, not his or her vice president.
“Could I guarantee he won’t have issues for the next four years? He has a lot of issues that are just sort of sitting there,” Scheiner mused of Biden.
The documents we are seeing only disclose what the candidates want us to see. For instance, Biden appears to have undergone cosmetic procedures, but they are not mentioned anywhere in his history.
There were also only limited details on alleged sports-related injuries. Even so, Dr. Scheiner stated: “I had no idea Biden had such a history. My goodness gracious, he’s got a lot of history.”
