Report: DHS officials ordered not to speak to media on exploding immigration crisis

To say that President Joe Biden has a crisis on his hands at the southern border would be quite the understatement.

According to Breitbart, the situation is becoming so bad that officials with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have been ordered not to speak to the media on the state of the exploding immigration crisis on the southern U.S. border.

An anonymous senior official with the DHS reportedly told Breitbart Texas that the Biden administration’s handling of media relations over the issue is “night and day” to that of former President Donald Trump.

DHS silenced

Biden spent his first days in the White House rolling back virtually all of Trump’s border and immigration policies, so while the crisis isn’t unexpected, it’s apparently even worse than what’s being reported.

That’s not a stretch to assume considering DHS officials have apparently been silenced by the Biden White House.

“We have been advised not to speak on immigration issues at the border and to rely on DHS’s Office of Public Affairs and the Whitehouse Press Office to handle messaging,” the insider with knowledge of the orders told Breitbart.

The new gag order, which has no expiration date, applies to “senior law enforcement leaders” within the ranks of DHS, meaning that reporters who want to find out on what’s really going on behind the scenes will have a much more difficult time.

“I’ve seen this before”

A growing number of Democrats are now speaking out and asking questions as to why this border crisis has exploded in less than two months of Biden being in office.

On Tuesday, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) told Fox News that the administration is “purposely withholding” data on how many illegal immigrants are being detained and then released into the United States.

“I now know that they’re bringing people from McAllen over to Laredo, processing them in Laredo, and they’re going to release them in my community,” Cuellar said, according to Breitbart. “I’ve seen this before, don’t let the local communities know what you’re doing, where they’re starting to bring people in from the valley, process them in Laredo, release them at a bus station. And, again, I’ve seen this before in the past.”

Cuellar was referencing the highly controversial “catch-and-release” style of dealing with an influx of illegal immigrants, which was how former President Barack Obama’s administration approached the situation. That method puts an extreme strain on the resources of local communities that inevitably have to deal with the released immigrants, who typically have no money, food, or shelter.

Only time will tell just how bad this situation becomes, but given how it has evolved so much in under two months of Biden taking office, the future doesn’t look bright.
