DHS announces cancellation of border wall projects in Rio Grande and Laredo sectors

By now, we’ve learned that former President Donald Trump’s immigration and border policies were quite effective, given the current crisis at the border that continues to unfold under President Joe Biden, who nixed a vast majority of Trump’s policies upon entering office.

According to Breitbart, the situation appears as if it could become significantly worse, as it was announced last week that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will cancel all remaining contracts and plans for a southern U.S. border wall in the Laredo and Rio Grande Valley Sectors of Texas — some of the busiest illegal immigration entry points in the country.

For other areas of the border where wall construction cannot be unilaterally canceled by the Biden administration, instead, the administration will focus on environmental surveys, and outreach “with interested stakeholders,” which include landowners at the border.

“Environmental planning activities will cover projects funded with DHS’s Fiscal Year 2018-2021 barrier system appropriations where construction had not started,” the latest DHS press release stated.

Calling on Congress

As the Biden administration moves to erase virtually every policy put forth by Trump, they’re also turning to Congress to pass the appropriate legislation that would cancel all remaining border wall construction projects.

The Biden administration made clear that it will also focus on “smarter border security measures,” which include unspecified upgrades and improvements to the current border entry point situation.

Biden needs Congress to approve the cancellation of the remaining Trump-era border wall funding, or else it will be forced to use the allocated funds previously passed by Congress for existing border wall projects.

According to a Breitbart report from earlier this year, U.S. taxpayers have been on the hook for millions per day while the Biden administration placed a 60-day pause on border wall construction projects upon entering office — a pause that has now lasted for nearly nine months.

“Impeach Mayorkas”

News of the cancellation of what could be a significant mitigation tool for illegal border crossers sparked outrage among some GOP lawmakers, including Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), who immediately called for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to be removed from office via impeachment.

“DHS Secretary Mayorkas, during a border crisis, is cancelling border wall contracts. Impeach Mayorkas,” Crenshaw tweeted.

It’s bizarre and frightening that America is currently run by an administration that continues to prioritize satisfying their Trump Derangement Syndrome over the security and safety of American citizens.
