Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced on Tuesday that Florida would be assisting Texas with the crisis at the southern border sending a shot at the White House and President Biden's inaction.
DeSantis issued a statement saying, "The impacts of Biden’s Border Crisis are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law. At my direction, state agencies including law enforcement and the Florida National Guard are being deployed to Texas, with assets including personnel, boats and planes. While Biden ignores the crisis he created, Florida stands ready to help Texas respond to this crisis."
President Biden created this crisis and is refusing to do anything to stop the waves of illegal immigrants flooding the southern border.
Now DeSantis is flexing his power and his decision to send the National Guard and other assets to Texas demonstrates he is a man of action. This is in sharp contrast to President Biden and his administration.
DeSantis has been looking for a big win as the 2024 Republican presidential primary has been dominated by former President Donald Trump.
DeSantis has found the perfect opportunity to get himself back into the conversation while making Joe Biden look weak and incompetent. After all, DeSantis's real enemy is Joe Biden, not Donald Trump.
This move is far from a token effort as DeSantis is sending 200 Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) officers, 800 Florida National Guardsmen, 101 Florida Highway Patrol troopers, 20 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, and 20 individuals working in Emergency Management to Texas.
There are also 17 “unmanned aerial vehicles” and dozens of other vehicles being sent to Texas which will be invaluable in securing the border and stemming the tide.
DeSantis is demonstrating to voters that he has what it takes to act and combat the immigration crisis. DeSantis can't afford to be weak on immigration either as that takes away one of Trump's biggest selling points if DeSantis matches it.
The only question left is what the Biden administration is going to do now that Republicans are taking matters into their own hands.
While Republican governors work on securing the border, House Republicans are close to launching procedures to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his role in the border crisis.
Impeaching Mayorkas would be a symbolic victory more than anything as the real responsibility for the border crisis lies with President Joe Biden.
It was President Biden's open borders policies that have attracted millions of immigrants to the United States. Biden's irresponsibility has caused death and suffering on an unimaginable scale as millions embarked on a dangerous journey that not all survived.
While Mayorkas certainly deserves to be impeached, nothing will truly change until President Biden is thrown out of office.
