Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed four bills on Thursday limiting vaccine mandates and other COVID-related restrictions that have been imposed on Americans at the local level and all the way up to the White House.
In a move not unlike something we could expect to see from former President Donald Trump, the signing ceremony was held in Brandon, Florida, Fox News reported, leading some to speculate the governor chose that location because of viral “Let’s go, Brandon!” chants that erupted in recent weeks at sporting events and other crowded venues.
The chant originated at a NASCAR race where a reporter tried to claim that fans were shouting “Let’s go, Brandon!” to cheer on the race’s winner, when it was clear they were saying, “F*** Joe Biden.”
Crowds quickly picked up on the irony and began to chant the more family-friendly phrase in some locations.
“A great American city”
Back in Florida, the anti-vaccine mandate bills were a clear jab at President Joe Biden, who tried to impose a vaccine mandate on private businesses with more than 100 employees that has been stalled, for now, in the courts.
The jab was only accentuated by the choice of location, though DeSantis was coy about his reasoning when asked by reporters whether he was trolling the president.
“I think that Brandon, Florida is a great American city. I think the people here are fantastic,” DeSantis said with a big smile, while the gathered crowd reportedly chanted “Let’s go, Brandon!” in the background.
“We were here to celebrate a great city in the state of Florida, a freedom city, and it’s important that when you have the federal government overreaching, like Joe Biden’s doing, that we signed legislation to protect Floridians,” the governor later told Fox News. “Doing it here in Brandon I think is especially meaningful because I think people here really appreciate it.”
Biden falling flat
For disgruntled Americans, the “Let’s go, Brandon!” chant is just one way to take out their frustrations about Biden’s terrible policies, given that they are stuck with him until 2024.
In between embarrassing gaffes and falling asleep during public meetings, Biden has managed to reverse a lot of Trump’s accomplishments that were actually doing good for the country, such as the “Remain in Mexico” policy on the border and the Keystone XL pipeline, which Biden shut down.
No wonder people are so frustrated.
