Denise Dowse, ‘Beverly Hill, 90210,’ dies at 64

Actress Denise Dowse, best known for her role in Beverly Hills, 90210, is dead at the age of 64, Fox News reports

Dowse’s passing was revealed by her sister Tracey in an Instagram message that she posted on Saturday evening.

“I want to take this moment to thank our friends and family for all of the love and prayers,” the message reads. “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform everyone that my sister, Denise Dowse has gone forward to meet our family in eternal life.”

Cause of death

Dowse’s passing comes as the result of severe meningitis. Tracy revealed that Dowse, as a result, was in a coma and had to be hospitalized.

“She is currently in the hospital in a coma brought on by a virulent form of meningitis,” Tracy wrote. “Her doctors do not know when she will come out of the coma as it was not medically induced.”

Dowse died roughly a week later.

Remembering Dowse

Dowse was an actress and director best known for her role on Beverly Hills 90210. There, she played West Beverly Hills High vice principal Yvonne Teasley.

Dowse, though, also played roles in a number of other productions, including on such television shows as Criminal Minds, ER, Seinfeld, Full House, Grey’s Anatomy, X-Files, Nip/Tuck, and many others.

With regard to her directing, Dowse was most proud of Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story. 

“My very best friend”

A number of tributes to Dowse have been posted to social media by her acting colleagues and fans. But, the most touching tribute came from her sister Tracey.

She wrote:

Denise Yvonne Dowse was the most amazing sister, a consummate, illustrious actress, mentor, and director. She was my very best friend and final family member. Denise loved all of you. I know that she is watching over us with all the love she has.

Tracey, in the message announcing Dowse’s passing, expressed gratitude for all the support that she and her sister have recently received. She asked for privacy at this time, but she said that she will soon provide information about how Dowse’s life will be celebrated.
