A senior White House advisor is, once again, facing demands from the left for his resignation.
Several Senate Democrats have put forth a resolution “condemning Stephen Miller for trafficking in bigotry, hatred, and divisive political rhetoric” and calling for his “immediate” resignation or removal, the Washington Examiner reports.
The resolution comes, according to the Examiner, “after emails emerged of Miller sharing articles from white nationalist media outlets, seemingly using them as justification for his immigration stances.”
Here we go again
If all of this sounds familiar, it is because this is the second time in as many months that such a claim has been made against Miller.
The first such instance occurred this past December, and the same person who sponsored the current resolution was also leading the charge then, namely, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), according to NBC News.
Back in December, Harris, joined by 27 of her Democrat colleagues, wrote a letter to the White House requesting Miller’s removal after reports emerged from the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that “he advanced white nationalist, anti-immigrant ideologies.”
But, rather than fire Miller, the White House came to his defense, characterizing the SPLC as “discredited,” according to The Hill.
So, here we are a couple of months later, as the SPLC managed once again to uncover some of Miller’s emails, and Harris is back on the attack.
“Stephen Miller is the hateful force behind the cruel and xenophobic policies that have defined the Trump administration,” she said in a recent statement. “His white supremacist, anti-immigrant ideology has no place in our country, let alone the White House. I’m proud to lead this effort on behalf of immigrant families in California and throughout the country.”
But, this time around, obviously not happy with the way the White House handled the situation in December, Harris is looking to get the support of the Senate by introducing the recent resolution. So far, she has recruited several big names to join in her crusade, including Sens. Ed Markey (D-MA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) is looking to take similar action in the House, and he too has managed to garner some support.
Obviously, the measures introduced by Harris and Castro are attempts to force President Donald Trump’s hand and prompt Miller’s ouster. However, Trump has a history of doing what he thinks is right, not what the braying liberal hordes demand.
