It was expected that, if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned, Democrats would use this to try to energize their base and win some support for the midterm elections.
Now, that the U.S. Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe, this is exactly what is happening.
If you want proof, just take a look at any mainstream media outlet and the chances are that you will find either leftwing pundits or Democrat politicians using inflammatory language to energize their followers.
Or, you can take a look at what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is putting in her fundraising emails. While asking for money, she calls on her followers to “rise up” against “far-right extremists,” insisting that “a normal response won’t suffice.”
The big question
It is: what effect, if any, will the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe have on the upcoming midterm elections?
Prior to the court’s ruling, it was being predicted that Republicans are going to win back Congress – big time. Polling would suggest that this is still expected to happen.
The problem, as even CNN recently admitted, is that simply too many things are going wrong for Americans under Democrat leadership. Most notably, this includes the economic crisis, which has resulted in record-high gas prices and inflation.
It is just too unlikely that the abortion issue is going to trump these economic issues in the midterm elections, which is exactly what the polls are showing and is exactly why predictions about the outcome have not changed following the overturning of Roe.
What about at the state level?
Although the Supreme Court’s abortion ruling isn’t expected to change much at the federal level, CNN suggests that it has a higher chance of changing things at the state level.
CNN, somewhat surprisingly, states that this is because “the ending of Roe sends abortion decisions back to the states.” This, of course, is true. But, what’s surprising about this is that it runs counter to the left’s narrative that the Supreme Court took away a woman’s so-called right to have an abortion.
At the end of the day, this is all just speculation. No one has any idea what will happen either in state elections or federal elections this year.
But, something that is not speculation is that the Democrats are going to be using the court’s abortion decision to try to generate excitement among their base. They literally have nothing else to run on.
