Report: Democrats mingle at swanky fundraiser while thousands remain stranded in Afghanistan

The Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan as U.S. troops pulled out of the country, leaving thousands of Americans trapped behind enemy lines. But rather than staying focused on finding solutions, Democrats here in America appear decidedly distracted.

According to Breitbart, as Afghanistan continues to burn, Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have been partying it up in the Golden State.

It’s true

Held in Napa, California, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) hosted its annual fundraiser over the weekend. Donors could reportedly pay up to $30,000 to attend the swanky event.

In attendance were Pelosi and a number of other House Democrats who are vulnerable to losing their seats in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections.

According to Breitbart, Reps. Cindy Axne (D-IA), Carolyn Bourdeaux (D-GA), Angie Craig (D-MN), Sharice Davids (D-KS), Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), Josh Harder (D-CA), Susie Lee (D-NV), Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), Haley Stevens (D-MI), and Lauren Underwood (IL) all received kudos from the House speaker at the event.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm may also have been in attendance, Breitbart notes, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Video evidence

Unfortunately for Pelosi and fellow Democrats, a number of videos from the event have been made public that doesn’t exactly paint them in a positive light.

One came from The New York Times’ Kenneth Vogel, who shared a clip that, according to Breitbart, showed “Pelosi speaking to…droves of maskless people sitting at tables with wine and gourmet food while mask-clad staff attend to them.”

Take a look:

Leading by example?

President Joe Biden has been faced with some bad optics of his own over the last week as the Taliban took control in Kabul. At the time, Biden was vacationing at Camp David, and he was reluctant to give that trip up, even returning there after making a brief statement on the matter. Later, Biden reportedly wanted to take an early weekend, but he thought the better of it.

The president has attempted to fix the optics problem with press conferences on Friday and Sunday, but overall, they may have done more to hurt than help him. It’s all happening the way one would expect it to happen under Democratic leadership: Disaster is everywhere, and those in power don’t seem too bothered about it.
