Democrats desperately want to pass a mass amnesty bill, and thought they’d be able to slip amnesty language for some eight million illegal immigrants into their $3.5 trillion spending bill until that idea was quashed by the Senate parliamentarian this week.
According to Breitbart, the fact that Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that amnesty language in the spending bill violated the Byrd Rule for budget reconciliation bills means that Democrats likely just lost their only chance to make it happen ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
In the Breitbart exclusive, an unnamed senior aide for a Senate Republican made clear that due to what will likely happen in 2022 — when Republicans are predicted to win back the House — Democrats lost their only chance to pass amnesty for the time being.
“The last chance”
The unnamed GOP source told the outlet that because Republicans are “almost guaranteed” to win the House majority in the 2022 midterm elections, Democrats are flat out of luck this time around.
“This reconciliation effort really is the last chance for Democrats to force amnesty on the American people. They won’t try it in an election year. And Republicans are almost guaranteed to take the House back next November, meaning at that point, we’ll be saved from it,” the unnamed source reportedly said.
The GOP source added: “It’s tough to over-emphasize how important it is that Democrats were blocked from making a massive policy change like this in reconciliation, but we’ve gotta keep fighting because they are going to keep looking for ways to get amnesty added.”
A long list of high-profile Republicans opined on the parliamentarian’s bombshell ruling against the Democrats’ attempt to slip amnesty language into their already-asinine spending bill, including National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Mike Berg.
“It’s ridiculous that Democrats tried to ram through amnesty for illegal immigrants while our country is facing a massive surge at the border,” Berg said, referencing a developing southern U.S. border crisis involving over 10,000 Haitian migrants camping out under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.
“The radical left is so intent on passing amnesty for illegal immigrants that they want to throw the rules out the window to get it done,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told Breitbart.
“Not only do Americans oppose blanket amnesty, they want a secure border. Democrat efforts to pass radical immigration policies using a budget procedure run contrary to the will of the American people,” Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) told the outlet exclusively.
A new crisis
The situation developing at the southern U.S. border with the Haitian migrants is a new, white-hot political crisis for the Biden administration, which further complicates any amnesty plans for the foreseeable future.
That’s especially true if new caravans eventually arrive at the southern border, which is certainly not a stretch to presume will happen in the near future. Luckily for Americans, we have at least one person in the upper chamber who is willing to call out Democrats on their tricks.
