Freshmen Democrats in Congress are painting their leadership into a corner, but that hasn’t stopped veteran Dems from defending their younger counterparts.
Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) even went so far as to suggest that the experiences of Rep. Ilhan Omar are comparable to those of the children of Holocaust survivors.
Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, has been accused of making numerous anti-Semitic comments over the last several weeks.
Defend at All Costs
To be honest, this controversy regarding Rep. Omar would probably be over by now had the Dems just come out to reprimand her for her words originally.
Instead, they’re continuing to make ridiculous excuses for her — and they’re burying themselves deeper in hypocrisy in the process.
Rep. Clyburn is no exception.
“There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my parents are Holocaust survivors. My parents did this.’ It’s more personal with her,” Clyburn said of Omar. “I’ve talked to her, and I can tell you she is living through a lot of pain.”
Even if we take Clyburn at his word, does this really justify the anti-Semitic comments made by the freshman representative?
By Clyburn’s definition, the son of a white man killed by an African-American would be justified in making racist comments! (This is, of course, absurd.)
Where is Leadership?
Nancy Pelosi is the official face of the Democrat Party in the House, so of all people, Pelosi should be heading the charge of people demanding a sincere apology from Omar.
This is especially true considering that Pelosi has claimed that Trump is a racist without a single shred of evidence to prove her claim.
Meanwhile, Pelosi is making excuses for Rep. Omar:
Nancy Pelosi refuses to say if Ilhan Omar should apologize for her anti-Semitism: “She may need to explain that she did not, it’s up to her to explain. But I do not believe that she understood the full weight of the words”

There is right and there is wrong. Period. If Omar meant something other than what she said, it is up to her to clarify her statements and issue an apology for the misunderstanding.
Instead, all we’ve heard from her camp is crickets, and all we hear from party leadership are excuses. Shameful.
