Actress Dawn Wells ‘grateful’ for friends and fans who are helping her amid financial ruin

A famous TV star from the mid-60s has come upon extreme hardship… and her friends and fans are bailing her out.

Dawn Wells, who starred as Mary Ann on “Gilligan’s Island,” is about to get almost $200,000 via a GoFundMe page set up to offset medical bills and IRS penalties.

Where Did It Go?

Dawn Wells was not just a one-hit wonder.

So, it is reasonable to ask where all her money went.

She has a total of 63 acting credits to her name, with two TV series in 2018 and six over the last two years.

That, of course, is not to mention all the residual money she is receiving.

Wells, herself, asked that very question recently to a close friend.

“I don’t know how this happened. I thought I was taking all the proper steps to ensure by golden years,” Wells stated.

She continued, “Now, here I am, no family, no husband, no kids, and no money.”

Friend to the Rescue

After telling her story to a friend, he apparently took it upon himself to start the GoFundMe page without Wells’ knowledge.

He set a goal of $180,000 and more than $166,000 has already been donated to cover what he said were medical bills from “life-threatening” surgery and IRS penalties.

Wells was stunned when she found out about the page.

While she appreciated her friend’s intentions, this is apparently something she did not want to become public knowledge.

“He created that page with love… like someone protecting their child,” Wells stated.

The TV star expressed how grateful she was to everyone that had donated their hard-earned money to her cause.

However, she also stated she was not exactly comfortable accepting the money.

In fact, Wells is even considering returning the money to those that donated.
