2022 got off to a rough start for one comedic actor.
David Koechner, known for his roles in the movie Anchorman and the TV series The Office, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with a hit-and-run collision on Friday.
Details of crash and arrest
His legal troubles could hamper a nationwide tour set for later this year.
TMZ was among the first to report on the arrest in Simi Valley, California, where local officers responded to calls of an erratic driver. The gossip site referenced characteristics like height and date of birth to confirm that the Koechner named in the arrest report is the actor.
The report indicate he was booked into the Ventura County jail early on Friday and was released the next morning.
Koechner’s vehicle was reportedly towed from the scene after sustaining damage caused by a collision with at least one street sign. He allegedly failed a field sobriety test and initially registered a 0.13 blood-alcohol content level, which is above the legal limit of 0.08.
TMZ also obtained photos apparently showing Koechner filling up the tank of an obviously damaged vehicle after his release. Sources indicated that two tires were damaged during the destructive drive.
Possible interruption to planned comedy tour
Local reports reveal that he is set to appear in court in March. Neither his representatives nor law enforcement agencies involved in the arrest provided an immediate comment.
That hearing comes during an 11-city comedy tour set to launch in New York this week and conclude in Oklahoma more than four months later.
It remains unclear whether the fallout from his arrest will have any impact on scheduling or any other aspects of the tour.
Although a few memorable roles stand out in his career, his credits include more than 200 projects on television and the big screen. Given his lengthy resume in Hollywood and the ability of other actors to bounce back from similar legal troubles, it seems likely that his career will survive the recent arrest.
As for the potential short-term negative impact on his upcoming tour and other planned projects, however, that remains to be seen.
