The father accused of torturing his children found out he will now be facing even more charges.
After hearing arguments, the judge presiding over the case decided to NOT dismiss perjury charges as requested by the defense team.
Children are supposed to feel safe when they are under their parent’s care.
That was hardly the case with the Turpin children, though.
David Turpin and his wife, Louise, have been accused of torturing 12 of their 13 children.
According to the suit, the Turpins have also been charged with 12 counts of false imprisonment, nine counts of child abuse, and seven accounts of cruelty to a dependent child.
On top of those charges, David Turpin now faces eight counts of perjury.
Those charges are related to paperwork Turpin filed stating the children were being home-schooled.
All of the children have obviously been taken away from the Turpins.
The question everyone wants answered now is why the Turpins did this.
While the local DA said there was no intent to actually kill the children, the abuse was extreme.
The sister of Louise Turpin believes she may have some insight as to what changed in the household.
According to Teresa Robinette, changes started to occur after the couple started drinking heavily.
In addition, they allegedly started to live a swinger lifestyle.
The couple reportedly started the abuse of the children by choking them and tying them up with ropes.
When the children figured out how to get free from the ropes, they switched to padlocks and chains to keep them secured.
The children were discovered when one of them managed to escape.
The child had jumped from a window and used a deactivated cell phone to call 911.
When authorities arrived, they found three of the children secured to the furniture.
The only child that reportedly escaped their wrath was their 2-year-old, who authorities said was in good health when they arrived.
