‘Indiana Jones 5’ crew member found dead in Moroccan hotel: Reports

The fatal discharge of a gun on a film set last month has led to increased scrutiny of safety measures within the entertainment industry.

More recently, a crew member working on the production team for the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 has reportedly been found dead in a hotel room as the movie was being filmed in Morocco.

“An incredibly talented colleague”

According to Fox News, 54-year-old Nic Cupac’s death is not believed to be related to the film’s production.

Lucasfilm issued a statement confirming the news, asserting: “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Nic Cupac, an incredibly talented colleague and member of the film community who will be greatly missed.”

Few details have since surfaced regarding a possible cause of death, but the available evidence appears to point to natural causes. According to Walt Disney Studios, Cupac’s body was found in his Fes hotel room.

Actor Harrison Ford is reprising his role for the fifth installment of the action movie series, as reported by the New York Post.

Cupac had been working as a grip on the film set with responsibilities including building and maintaining the rigging equipment for cameras and lighting.

Film beset by consistent delays

Cupac had reportedly joined the crew only a short time before his death and was one of about 100 individuals on the crew working on location in Morocco.

According to IMDB, he was a veteran of the film industry with credits including Harry PotterJurassic Park, and the Star Wars franchise, among dozens of others.

It was unclear from available reports whether the death will cause any delays to the production schedule, which has already encountered several problems since filming was initially set to begin last year.

After the schedule was pushed back by nearly a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ford sustained a shoulder injury while rehearsing a fight scene. Additional delays were caused by ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in Morocco.

The latest film in the Indiana Jones franchise was originally set to be released in July. That date was later pushed back by about a year, and it is currently not expected to hit theaters until sometime in the summer of 2023.
