Carrie Underwood publicly acknowledges the death of friend and coworker Craig Zadan

Someone near and dear to Carrie Underwood has suddenly passed.

On Wednesday, Underwood took to Twitter to express her sadness over the death of Craig Zadan.

Ties to Zadan

Carrie had worked with Mr. Zadan on The Sound of Music Live! in 2013.

The success of that show led the way for live broadcasts of Peter Pan Live! in 2014, The Wiz Live! in 2015, Hairspray Live in 2016, and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert in 2018.

Zadan banked on Underwood’s popularity rather than her limited acting experience to make the live broadcast a success — and he was successful!

“Craig was a visionary, a risk-taker, a lover of music and just an all-around nice guy,” Underwood said of Zadan. “I am honored to have worked with him. He will be missed greatly.”

Behind the Scenes

You may not have heard of Zadan, but he has served as a producer for a long list of shows, including FootlooseAnnieChicagoThe Music Man, and Fahrenheit 451.

The Casting Society of America awarded its Career Achievement Award to Zadan in 2008.

He has also been nominated for eight Emmys.
