Former Minnesota city council candidate sentenced to probation over nude photo scandal
One of the most bizarre political scandals of this decade has finally come to a close.
For posting nude photos of his estranged wife on the internet, former St. Paul, Minnesota city council candidate David Martinez has been sentenced to two years of probation.
The scandal first surfaced in July 2018.
Martinez and his wife reportedly got into an argument that turned physical.
According to reports, at one point, Martinez grabbed his wife by the throat and threw her into some shelving on July 4, 2018.
Afterward, his wife filed a restraining order against him.
Rather than accept it with grace, Martinez went for revenge. The former candidate posted a topless picture of his wife on the blog of his campaign website without her authorization.
In what can only be described as sheer idiocy, he also posted a copy of the restraining order.
As part of his probation, Martinez has also been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The day after the argument with his wife, police were called to a local library over a confrontation between Martinez and library staff. The library banned him from entering the building for a month.
The next day, Martinez was involved in another incident at Target Field during a Minnesota Twins baseball game. He was escorted out of the stadium and banned from attending events there for a year.
In addition to the psych eval, the sentencing judge, Robert Awsumb, ordered Martinez to avoid drugs and alcohol and to refrain from having any contact at all with this wife for the foreseeable future.
