Conservative author and pundit Ann Coulter was arguably one of then-candidate Donald Trump’s biggest supporters ahead of the 2016 election — but she has since taken a liking to stabbing the president in the back, particularly over what she calls failures on immigration and other issues.
In that light, Coulter went off in a multi-tweet rant on Sunday that came in response to a Trump tweet critical of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Coulter called the president a “complete moron,” “disloyal,” and a “blithering idiot,” the Washington Examiner reported.
Trump sparks Twitter storm
It is no secret that President Trump still holds hard feelings toward Sessions over his immediate recusal in 2017 in matters related to Russia that gave rise to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the two-year investigation that hobbled the Trump administration from the start.
Trump referenced all of that and more in a tweet on Friday that urged Alabama voters to “not trust” Sessions — who is running to reclaim the Senate seat he vacated to join the administration — and reiterated his endorsement of former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville in that state’s upcoming primary race.
In Coulter’s initial response to that tweet, she wrote, “3 years ago, a complete moron of a president told NBC’s Lester Holt, ‘I was going to fire Comey. … [W]hen I decided to just do it I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.’ BAM! SPECIAL PROSECUTOR!”
Coulter was far from finished, however, as she proceeded to retweet the president’s missive against Sessions with her own additional commentary another 11 times over the course of the day on Sunday, adding a handful of other tweets on the same topic that weren’t tied to the specific retweet.
“Trump didn’t build the wall and never had any intention of doing so. The ONE PERSON in the Trump administration who did anything about immigration was Jeff Session[s]. And this lout attacks him,” Coulter wrote in one, as the Examiner noted.
A few tweets later in her extended rant, she wrote: “Sessions HAD to recuse himself, you complete blithering idiot. YOU did not have to go on Lester Holt’s show and announce you fired Comey over the Russian investigation. That’s what got you a Special Prosecutor.”
Coulter went on to call President Trump a “shallow and broken man” and an “idiot-boy” in other tweets, took some shots at the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and suggested that there was scandalous information yet to be revealed about Tuberville that would make his election more difficult to achieve.
Finally, Coulter shared Sessions’ surprisingly direct response to Trump’s critique.
“Observe: a gentleman — and a MAN, not a whining, blame-shifting, gigantic fruitcake,” she wrote, according to the Examiner.
There is no denying that immigration and border security are Coulter’s priorities over all else. But while President Trump has accomplished some good things in that regard, it seems those achievements haven’t been nearly enough to satisfy her demands, causing her to abandon the president she once so fervently championed.
