Cost of House Jan. 6 committee investigation is revealed

Guess how much money congressional Democrats are expected to spend this year on “investigating” the Capitol protest of Jan. 6, 2021. According to Breitbart News, the answer is $8 million.

That’s right: amid the economic struggles that the country is facing, the Democrats are taking $8 million from you, the taxpayer, and spending it on a partisan “investigation” whose only purpose is to try to turn people off from voting Republican later this year.

The numbers

Breitbart, in its report, breaks down this $8 million figure.

According to the outlet, during the first quarter of 2022, which is January through April, the House Jan. 6 committee spent over $2 million. Here’s the breakdown:

$1,996,433.14 on salary; $144.93 on travel; $12,394.78 on communications; $52 on printing; $18,919.53 on “other services”; $18,578.51 on supplies; $26,656.66 on equipment.

The committee is now expected to spend another $6 million during the remainder of this legislative year.

Timing

To put this into context, the Labor Department, on Friday, just released the latest consumer price index for May. What that report shows is a year-over-year increase of 8.6%, which is a 41-year-high.

But, chances are, you didn’t need the Labor Department to release a report to tell you how bad inflation is. That’s because you have been living with it.

Everyday necessities, including food and fuel, continue to increase. Gas, for example, has reached a national average of $5 per gallon for the first time in over two decades. And, many parts of the country are seeing gas prices well over $5.

Yet, as Americans continue to struggle economically, President Joe Biden is trying to convince them that the U.S. economy isn’t that bad, while House Democrats continue spending Americans’ money on the partisan Jan. 6 committee.

Americans “don’t really care” about Jan. 6

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) commented on the nationally televised hearing that the House Jan. 6 committee put on this week.

“While there may be a lot of coverage in the Beltway [and] in Washington, D.C., among media elites, the American people don’t really care when they can’t afford their grocery bills, when they can’t afford to fill up their cars with gas, because the price of gas has doubled, [and] when we potentially are facing food shortages,” Stefanik said.

Accordingly, she argued that what Americans want is “a primetime hearing on inflation.” But, Stefanik noted, of course, that the Democrats are not going to give them that.
