Conservatives on Reddit point out Biden’s hypocrisy on COVID-19

A user on the largest conservative subreddit, r/Conservative, pointed out on the final day of 2021 that President Joe Biden is doing much worse than his predecessor Donald Trump when it comes to both COVID-19 and his conduct as a candidate and while in office.

“Either Biden is a mass murderer worse than Trump, or he falsely accused Trump of being a mass murderer, which is more unacceptable and disgusting than all of Trump’s ‘mean tweets’ combined,” a Reddit user under the name “KnowledgeandFaith” posted on New Year’s Eve. “Choose.”

More deaths under Biden

The Reddit user pointed out that back when deaths from COVID-19 were sitting around 220,000 in the U.S., Biden called Trump “responsible” for the deaths and said it disqualified him from being president.

The remark reportedly came during an October 2020 debate between the two presidential hopefuls.

“Two hundred and twenty thousand Americans dead,” Biden said at the time, according to Boston Herald columnist Grace Curley. “If you hear nothing else I say tonight, hear this. Anyone who’s responsible for not taking control — in fact, not saying, I take no responsibility, initially — anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States of America.”

Now, there are over 800,000 deaths from the coronavirus in America — and more of them have come since Biden took office than during Trump’s tenure.

Does Biden consider himself responsible? Of course not.

Double talk and double standards

It’s one of many points Republicans have been making about Biden’s double talk and double standards, and it’s one that Democrats are all too happy to continue ignoring as the pandemic rages on.

What they won’t be able to ignore are Biden’s falling poll numbers and an expected red wave in 2022 that could result in the president being blocked by Congress from completing much of his progressive legislative agenda. One Republican lawmaker said in a recent interview with The Hill that the GOP could gain as many as 70 seats in November’s elections.

“I’ve been telling Democrats, especially Democrats in targeted seats, enjoy the holidays, and you got a decision to make: retire or lose next fall,” said Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer (R).

“In this environment,” Emmer said, “no Democrat is safe.”
