In a speech Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a threat to opposers of his communist party’s rule: Those who try to bully or oppress the CCP, Xi said, “will find their heads bashed bloody against a great wall of steel.”
But while Fox News reports that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is convinced “Xi is serious” about his threat, top Democrats including President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have done little to indicate that America won’t stand for it. Now, one congresswoman has charged the pair of Dem leaders with being complicit in China’s attempts at dominance in their choice to give little more than “a verbal slap on the wrist” to the communist nation.
“Look what’s happening”
Speaking Friday during an appearance on Fox Business, South Carolina Republican Nancy Mace slammed Pelosi and Biden for their apparent inaction in the face of threats from China.
Mace spoke with Fox Business Tonight, where she was asked for her reaction to Xi’s recent remarks.
“It’s incredible, really,” she said before castigating the federal response to the threat.
“[O]ur response from the State Department that we’re going to take notes and not action reminds me of President Biden’s appearance at the G-7 summit just a few weeks ago — a verbal slap on the wrist as well, no less,” Mace remarked, according to Breitbart.
She went on: “And look what’s happening right now in the halls of Congress, you’ve got Nancy Pelosi playing defense attorney to China over the origins of COVID-19.”
“Prove him wrong”
Mace also accused the House speaker of “barring Republican leadership from even having a hearing this week” on the origins of COVID-19, and of “prohibiting government officials like Dr. [Anthony] Fauci from showing up at that hearing.”
That hearing, which was chaired by House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), delved into theories that the virus may have leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China. But Democrats wanted nothing to do with it, as Scalise noted.
“Perplexingly, Speaker Pelosi has refused to allow a single hearing — calling it a ‘diversion,’” Scalise alleged Tuesday, according to the New York Post. “This is far from a diversion.”
And even as China is apparently ramping up its threats to the international world, Pelosi doesn’t seem keen on switching her stance. It’s a situation that Pompeo, for his part, hopes changes — and soon.
“The Chinese can see weakness. They can see an administration that’s not prepared to respond in the way the Trump administration did with clarity and force and resolve. This is what it’s going to take to deter Xi Jinping,” Pompeo told Fox News Primetime this week. “Xi is serious. He has confidence, he’s aggressive. He thinks America is declining. He’s wrong about that, but it’s going to take American leadership to prove him wrong.”
