While presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden might attempt to portray himself as a moderate in order to attract the widest range of voters on Election Day, some of his most vocal supporters are making that a hard sell.
According to Breitbart, the founder and leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party USA has announced his endorsement of the former vice president.
“An immediate, urgent question”
Bob Avakian, who has previously called on communists to abstain from voting in elections, is now urging his supporters to cast a ballot for Biden in order to oust the “Trump/Pence regime” from office.
He made his case in a blog post consisting largely of pointed criticism aimed at the “fascism” of the Trump administration and the “capitalism-imperialism” system of government he claimed is currently in place.
“Right now, for everyone who is concerned with ending injustice and oppression, and with the question of whether humanity will have a future worth living — or will have a future at all — removing the Trump/Pence fascist regime from power is an immediate, urgent question and truly historic imperative,” Avakian wrote.
He continued at great length to decry the Trump administration in a post that included multiple references to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.
The author made it clear that Biden is hardly the far-left party’s ideal candidate and serves more as the means to an end, i.e. removing President Donald Trump from office.
“In spite of mass protest”
“At this critical hour, every appropriate means of non-violent action must be utilized to remove this regime from power,” Avakian wrote.
He went on to describe voting as a last resort for communists, writing that “if, in spite of mass protest demanding the removal of the Trump/Pence regime, this regime remains in power when it is time for voting, then — without placing fundamental reliance on this — using all appropriate means to work for the removal of this regime must include voting against Trump (assuming the election is actually held).”
Avakian went on to stress that he was not referring to a “protest vote” for a longshot candidate, “but actually voting for the Democratic Party candidate, Biden, in order to effectively vote against Trump.”
Making it clear that he did not endorse Biden’s campaign platform, however, he maligned the candidate and his party as “representatives and instruments of this exploitative, oppressive, and literally murderous system of capitalism-imperialism.”
While this communist call to action was tepid at best and Biden is sure to distance himself from the party’s position if ever pressed to give a response, statements like this will not help him make the case that he is the moderate in the race.
