Jill Biden, as is customary for First Ladies, released a video of her decorations at the White House for Christmas, and it features a dance team prancing throughout the building.
In their version of the "Nutcracker."
But observers were unimpressed, even offended.
"First Lady Jill Biden unveiled a bizarre Nutcracker-themed video showing a diverse collection of dancers strutting their stuff in the festively decorated White House, a display that had more in common with a pagan ritual than a traditional American Christmas," scoffed BizPacReview.
Biden wrote, "A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite."
Appearing were members of Dorrance Dance, which the report explained is a New York tap-dancing company that claims: "At its core, tap dance is a subversive form. Rooted in protest and transcendence, improvisation and innovation were paramount to its survival and are innately embedded in its very foundation. We strive to honor this legacy."
On social media, the responses were not positive:
"What fresh hell is this?! This is so embarrassing."
"This is what watching the Nutcracker in hell would be like. The Dems ruined everything."
"It’s awful and classless. Wouldn’t expect anything else from this corrupt administration!"
"Is everyone at the White House on drugs???"
"No spirit of Christmas there, you manage to ruin and stain everything."
"OMG!!! This can’t be real? Horrible—the one guy looks like a perv character from The Shining. Yikes. Hide the children if you don’t want nightmares. Disturbing IMO."
"Wow, so horrible. You have a really strange taste. How much money did you all steal from our pockets to create this very troubling video? How embarrassing."
The report quoted from Michelle Dorrance, who wrote on the company's website, "It is from this place of white privilege that I invite you to join me in lifelong antiracism work. Understanding how deeply embedded white supremacy, racism, and colonialism are in our culture is paramount to understanding our role (as white people) in perpetuating it, and embracing our job to dismantle it. That understanding is incredibly important to me as a human being and to me as a tap dancer. The resources here are a place to start."
Fox News cited other reactions, including:
"The United States of Bananas."
"Imagine thinking this gives America the Christmas spirit."
"You are so strange. Bizarre. Freaky."
It was described as "Jill's 'garbage' Christmas," at Off the Press.
And Newsweek noted the "change" from Melania Trump to Jill Biden.
