Iowa Republican calls on Pelosi to ‘come see the crisis’ at US-Mexico border: ‘It’s time to take action’

According to National Review, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said this week that America is “on a good path” when it comes to ending the growing immigration crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border — and it’s all thanks, she said, to the so-called “leadership” of President Joe Biden. But one GOP congresswoman just isn’t buying it.

In a tweet published Thursday, Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson (R) ordered Pelosi to visit the border herself and see what’s going on “firsthand.”

According to Breitbart, Hinson visited the border just this week, where she reported that officials don’t agree with the notion that the country is “moving in the right direction” with regard to the migrant crisis.

“Come see the crisis”

On her trip, Hinson was joined by several other House Republicans, all members of the Republican Study Committee, in what Breitbart described as a “tour the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) facilities.”

The GOP lawmakers also reportedly heard “from the law enforcement officers and border patrol that are being affected by the crisis happening at the southern border.”

Later Thursday, Hinson spoke with reporters about what she saw during the course of her visit — and she didn’t shy away from reiterating her call for Pelosi to “come see the crisis” for herself. “This crisis is a safety and security issue for border communities and our communities in Iowa. It’s time to take action,” Hinson wrote.

“Pelosi needs to come here”

Speaking with reporters, Hinson said it’s become clear that “Congress has been kicking the can for far too long” when it comes to border security.

“My colleagues have asked for President Biden and Vice President Harris to come here. Speaker Pelosi needs to come here too,” she said, according to Townhall.

“Just yesterday, [Pelosi] said that things are moving in the right direction. Well we just sat down with law enforcement officials from all over this border community, and they are telling us otherwise,” the congresswoman added.

But will the speaker actually take Hinson’s advice and plan a trip to see the root of the problem with her own eyes? I wouldn’t hold my breath.
