President Joe Biden has largely received a pass from the mainstream media for questionable behavior on the campaign trail and since his inauguration.
When he snapped at a CNN reporter during his recent trip to Europe, however, the president received some bipartisan backlash — including from one host of ABC’s The View.
“What do you do all the time?”
The incident in question occurred during a press conference that followed Biden’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
Reporter Kaitlan Collins shouted a question regarding the U.S. president’s perceived confidence in having successfully influenced Putin to change his behavior.
“I’m not confident he’ll change his behavior,” Biden shot back. “Where the hell — what do you do all the time? When did I say I was confident?”
Collins attempted to clarify, but Biden interjected to continue his explanation of his prior statements on the matter. The CNN reporter went on to list several of Putin’s most egregious acts, asking whether Biden believed anything changed after the bilateral talks.
The president reacted by suggesting that Collins was “in the wrong business” before turning and walking away.
“I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy”
An unexpected critique came later in the week by Sunny Hostin, who insisted that the president should be held to a higher standard that reflects the lofty position of power.
Either Biden or his advisers later determined that the reaction warranted a mea culpa, which he offered while boarding Air Force One to leave Switzerland for D.C.
“I owe my last question an apology,” the president said. “I shouldn’t have — I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy with the last answer I gave.”
That did not stop Hostin from laying into the president during Thursday’s show after acknowledging that Biden was likely “exhausted” after the extended trip and that Collins “mischaracterized” Biden’s prior remarks about his confidence level prior to the meeting with Putin.
“Joe Biden overreacted,” the host asserted, according to Breitbart. “He shouldn’t have reacted that way. I think he cussed as well in response. That’s conduct unbecoming of the office. I know people want to say this is like Uncle Joe. Uncle Joe is now the president of the United States.”
