While CNN has long faced accusations of pushing a partisan agenda in its coverage of the news, Project Veritas appears to have caught network insiders in the act.
The latest undercover investigation by journalist James O’Keefe reveals CNN executives discussing how to cover President Donald Trump, among other topics of interest — including an apparent desire to downplay the controversy surrounding information reportedly recovered from Hunter Biden’s laptop.
“Giving its marching orders to Fox News”
Although the New York Post published bombshell accusations implicating Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son in dubious foreign business interactions, many mainstream media outlets declined to give the story much coverage.
Project Veritas has now released audio from CNN editorial staff meetings that seem to lay out an agenda that includes diminishing the Post story.
CNN President Jeff Zucker reportedly said of the allegations: “I do think, on the Breitbart, New York Post, Fox News rabbit hole of Hunter Biden, which I don’t think anybody outside of that world understood.”
David Chalian, the network’s political director, made some startling assertions of his own.
“Obviously, we’re not going with the New York Post story right now on Hunter Biden, which seems to be giving its marching orders to Fox News and the right-wing echo chamber about what to talk about today,” he said.
“Stuff that the president was impeached over”
Chalian went on to apparently side with “Hunter Biden’s lawyer” in asserting that “this is the very stuff that the president was impeached over” and “the stuff that Senate committees looked at and found nothing wrong in Joe Biden’s interactions with Ukrainians.”
Furthermore, Project Veritas appears to have captured audio of CNN Executive Vice President and General Counsel David Vigilante telling Zucker that he believes “there’s a media story” in the Hunter Biden claims but that the network should be “awfully careful” about covering it.
“What in the world are Maggie Haberman and Jake Sherman doing retweeting that story?” Vigilante reportedly asked in reference to two prominent network figures.
