As pressure continued to mount for President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, very few of his powerful allies stuck by his side.
One of the primary reasons that Democrats wanted him out, aside from his obvious incompetence, was the fact that Democratic donors read the tea leaves and cut off the money spigots.
Biden and his campaign must have called in an old favor as, according to CNN, the Clintons reportedly privately encouraged donors to keep giving to Biden's campaign.
The elderly president had lost widespread support for his campaign in recent weeks, which began after his disastrous debate performance with former President Donald Trump.
According to sources reportedly familiar with the Clintons' actions in aiding Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton have apparently worked overtime in recent weeks to urge Democratic donors to keep the money flowing in.
CNN noted:
One of the sources said the Clintons are choosing to be “deferential to Biden’s decision.” However, the second source, who is familiar with the Clintons’ thinking and has spoken with the couple in recent days, insisted that it is more accurate to say they are “deferential to the process.”
"I don’t know how you campaign with a broadening electoral map without money. I don’t know what they’re doing. I don’t know," one major Democratic donor reportedly told CNN on Friday. "I’ve never seen this strategy where you think you can win without money."
The sources familiar with the conversations said that the Clintons were all-in on Biden as long as he was the presumptive nominee.
Notably, the source wasn't able to confirm that the Clintons were still personally in favor of Biden continuing in the race as pressure from within the Democratic Party mounted to extreme levels.
Multiple high-profile Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) all urged Biden to drop out.
Bombshell reports emerged Sunday afternoon that President Biden was preparing to drop out of the race before the president himself confirmed that he's no longer in the running.

Moments later, Biden published another post in which he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take the top spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.
One has to wonder the level of regret Democratic donors who listened to the Clintons have at this momment in time.
