Hillary Clinton remains coy about possible 2020 candidacy

There have been persistent rumors that failed 2016 Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton will eventually jump into the 2020 race for another run at the White House, and though she has been provided with numerous opportunities to definitively address those rumors, she has consistently let that possibility linger and declined to announce a decision one way or the other.

The Daily Mail reported that Clinton once again seemed to be toying with the idea during a recent appearance on British television, leaving the door wide open for a potential late entry into the 2020 Democratic primary cycle.

Time to move on?

Apparently still on her interminable promotional book tour with her daughter Chelsea, Clinton appeared on The Graham Norton Show to discuss The Book of Gutsy Women with the eponymous host.

Norton referenced a section of the book about former U.S. Womens National Soccer star Abby Wambach, whose recent retirement tagline “forget me” was about leaving the stage to clear room for others to follow in her charted path.

“And where are you? Are you saying ‘forget me’? Is that your mantra now?” Norton asked. To great laughter and cheers from the audience, Clinton replied, “Not yet.”

Clinton plays coy

“Because the rumor mill is flying that you could step back into the ring,” Norton said. Clinton replied, “Yeah, I hear that. I especially have been deluged, and you know, the last few weeks with thinking about doing that.”

“But right now, I’m not, at all, planning that,” she said. “I’d have to make up my mind really quickly because it’s moving very fast. But I do want to continue to influence the debate.

“I’m not leaving the political arena completely, I’m working really hard to, you know, make it clear that we have to hold our current leadership accountable, so I’m on Twitter … I’m out there all the time sort of pointing out some of the foolishness and craziness that we are currently experiencing. So I’m not going anywhere, I just don’t know what role I will be actually in,” Clinton added. Watch below:

Clock is ticking

Whether Clinton decides to run for president again or not, she was absolutely right about one thing — she’d better decide pretty soon.

The Daily Mail noted that Clinton has already missed the filing deadline to be included on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary.

While there is no deadline for inclusion in the Iowa caucuses, deadlines for participation in other state primaries are fast approaching, if not already past as well.

This whole “will she or won’t she” gambit Clinton has been playing while straddling the fence on a potential 2020 run has become tiresome, and it will be interesting to see if some of her fellow Democrats start putting her on the spot to make a final decision one way or another, if only so that everyone can adjust and go on about their business.
