Two-time Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has called for the Electoral College to be abolished even as she cast an electoral vote for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, Breitbart reported.
Clinton has been making the insane claim that the Electoral College must be done away with ever since her defeat by President Donald Trump in 2016. Even as she acts as an elector in New York, she continues to call for a hallmark of our nation to be done away with.
Particularly since the 2016 presidential election, Democrats have called for the presidency to be determined by the popular vote instead of the Electoral College.
Democrats have made it clear that the only thing that matters to them is power. Furthermore, Democrats have shown they are willing to take power by any means necessary.
Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 by a margin of nearly three million votes. However, she failed to win in the Electoral College — the victory that actually matters — and had to concede to Trump.
Clinton and her supporters in the Democratic Party have spent the last four years calling for a crucial part of our nation to be dismantled. Even as Democrats have regained power, Clinton continues to propagate the dangerous idea that our systems need to be fundamentally changed.
After casting her electoral vote for Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) on Monday, Clinton wrote on Twitter, “I believe we should abolish the Electoral College and select our president by the winner of the popular vote, same as every other office.”
Must be defended
Clinton is ignoring the fact that our nation is not — and was never intended to be — a pure democracy. It’s a democratic republic and the Electoral College exists to balance the influence of larger states against smaller states when electing the nation’s leader. In that way, the presidential election is in no way comparable to selecting a state representative.
Clinton continued saying, “But while it still exists, I was proud to cast my vote in New York for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.” If Clinton is genuinely opposed to the Electoral College, maybe she should step down from her position as an elector.
The Electoral College is the only thing that has kept Democrats from dominating the presidency. Without the Electoral College, states like California and New York will decide every presidency, while states with small populations will have no say in the election.
If Republicans believe that Democrats have no chance at abolishing the Electoral College, they are sadly mistaken. Democrats are on the cusp of holding all chambers of the legislative branch and the presidency.
The Founding Fathers worked to ensure that all states and populations would be represented through the Electoral College. Republicans must take an active role in defending it because the survival of the nation as we know it is on the line.
