Former President Donald Trump faced widespread criticism on social media throughout his tenure in the White House, and one of his most outspoken Twitter detractors was actress and model Chrissy Teigen.
In an announcement on Wednesday, however, the popular celebrity revealed that she would be leaving Twitter because the platform had been “negatively” impacting her life, The Hill reported.
“This world we have created here”
Of course, Teigen has also been blamed for spreading plenty of negativity of her own, particularly in the form of opprobrium directed at Trump and Republicans.
In any case, she bid a lengthy farewell to her more than 13 million followers before officially deactivating her account.
“Hey,” she wrote. “For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends.”
The Daily Mail obtained screenshots of the posts and shared the message she posed prior to taking erasing her Twitter presence. Teigen wrote that the time had come for her to say goodbye to the social media site because it no longer represents a positive force in her life.
“My life goal is to make people happy,” she reportedly tweeted. “The pain I feel when I don’t is too much for me. I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not.”
Reiterating her assertion that she and her followers did not “sign up” for the level of pushback she received, Teigen lamented that her frequent online altercations left her “deeply bruised.”
While she quit Twitter, her Instagram account reportedly remained active and she followed up her announcement with a post on the latter platform.
In effect, she declined to blame Twitter for failing to effectively respond to “relentless bullying,” simply declaring that she had grown tired of the incessant fighting and decided to leave on her own accord.
Though she spoke out on a number of hot-button topics, her feud with Trump, which dates back a decade, was among the most notable.
The two traded countless pointed barbs, including Trump’s description of Teigen as singer John Legend’s “filthy-mouthed wife” and her reply that he was a “p**** a** b****.”
