Chris Christie slams Kamala Harris for ‘politicizing’ the COVID-19 vaccine

Arguably one of the worst things to happen during the pandemic was the politicization of the COVID-19 vaccine, which if you’ll recall, started while then-candidate Kamala Harris vowed to not “roll up her sleeve” for a vaccination shot as long as former President Donald Trump was in charge.

According to Fox News, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) believes that very statement, from the woman who would later become the vice president, is what began the nasty politicization of the vaccine, which would result in millions of Americans resisting the COVID-19 shot altogether.

It’s Harris’ fault

During the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, Harris and then-candidate Joe Biden spent an extraordinary amount of time blasting the Trump administration for its handling of the pandemic, especially in the weeks leading up to the announcement of a coming vaccine.

“If the public health professionals, if Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us we should take it, I’ll be the first in line to take it, absolutely,” Harris said at the time. “But if Donald Trump tells us we should take it, I’m not taking it.”

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that at that moment, the vaccine turned political. Though plenty of Americans who refuse to take the vaccine have many other reasons, it’s truly a shame that politics had to be one of them.

“That put us in a totally different area, that allowed it to be politicized and that politicization is continuing now,” Christie said during a recent interview with ABC News.

Mandate backlash

Christie’s assertion that the vaccination issue took a nasty turn thanks to Harris comes on the heels of a new wave of backlash after Biden announced last a week a new COVID-19 vaccine mandate for businesses that employ over 100 people.

For employees who continue to opt out of getting vaccinated, they’ll be required to undergo weekly testing. Businesses who violate the new rules, which will be enforced through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), will be hit with massive, $14,000 fines per offense, Fox News noted in a separate report.

According to The New York Times, a number of congressional Republicans have already vowed to challenge the Biden administration’s ridiculous vaccine mandate in the court system.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, according to NBC News, called the mandate “unconstitutional,” and has also vowed to take the matter to the courts to decide.

“Joe Biden told Americans when he was elected that he would not impose vaccine mandates. He lied. Now small businesses, workers, and families across the country will pay the price,” McDaniel said.
