Chip Roy slams Kamala Harris, says Texans are wondering why state is still part of the union

Though Vice President Kamala Harris was tasked by President Joe Biden with investigating the “root causes” of the crisis at the southern U.S. border, to date, even after she finally visited Texas, not much has changed. As a matter of fact, the crisis seems to continue to worsen.

Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy generated headlines this week after revealing in an interview with the Daily Caller that his constituents are beginning to question whether or not it’s worth it for the state of Texas to remain part of a union that doesn’t seem to care about securing its borders.

Texas’ call for help

Roy pointed to a recent call for help issued by the state of Texas, to other red-state governors, in its efforts to bolster the manpower needed to take the border crisis into its own hands, mostly in the form of National Guard troops and law enforcement-related assistance.

The Texas Republican insisted that any governors able to help the state of Texas should, in fact, do so, as leaders in the state, including Gov. Greg Abbott (R), appear to be on the verge of taking matters into their own hands.

“Every state in the union should send resources to the state of Texas to help us secure the border,” Roy said, adding, “because dadgummit Texas is going to secure this border if the United States of America is failing to uphold its end of the bargain of our having a union.”

The GOP lawmaker also explained that many of his constituents are questioning why the state should remain part of the union if it’s essentially being left for dead in the face of the immigration crisis.

“I’ve got people in Texas that are starting to rattle about ‘what are we getting out of this equation? What are we getting out of being a part of a union that won’t secure its own border?'” Roy said.

Roy slams Harris

Harris, who chose El Paso, Texas as her photo op to say that she’s been to the southern U.S. border, came under fire by Roy and other Republicans for taking what many believe was the easy way out.

“So after 90+ days, @vp @KamalaHarris pitstops in El Paso – 750 miles from the actual #BidenBorderCrisis – en route to LA, goes to a Border Patrol Station, & doesn’t actually tour the BORDER. But she’s right about one thing… she should not debate me. #SecureOurBorderNow,” Roy tweeted last week.

“We have an unbelievably uncontrolled crisis on our border, with cartels having operational control of the river. The vice president doesn’t care,” Roy said, according to a previous Daily Caller report.

According to Politico, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), who represents a district hit especially hard by the immigration crisis, has repeatedly slammed Harris and the Biden administration, recently saying: “With all due respect, just coming and doing a staged visit is not enough. They have to understand.”

It’s sad enough that Harris waited so long to take a trip to the border, and even worse that she clearly chose an area where it looks much less like a crisis, compared to other parts of Texas being slammed by the surge of illegal immigrants. It’s not surprising, at this point, that Texans are questioning whether or not the U.S. government has their best interests at heart.
