Chicago witnesses over 50 shootings during 4th of July Weekend

Gun crime is still out of control in Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago, Illinois, which, ironically, is a city with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.

Breitbart News reports that Chicago was the scene of 54 shootings during the span from Friday to Monday morning.

That’s a rate of almost 20 shootings per day.

The first 31

Breitbart News first reported on the situation on Sunday morning. At that time, Chicago had witnessed 31 shootings between Friday and Sunday morning. Four of these shootings were fatal.

Breitbart provided further coverage of some of the fatal shootings, which oftentimes involve bystanders.

The outlet, for example, reports:

. . . the weekend’s first shooting fatality occurred at 10:50 p.m. Friday, when a 24-year-old woman was shot and killed “in the 2200 block of South Wentworth Avenue.” The victim was caught in the crossfire as two gunmen shot at each other.

The next 23

Breitbart News updated readers on the situation on Monday morning. It turns out that between Sunday morning and Monday morning the number of shootings jumped from 31 to 54 – that’s more than 20 shootings in less than 24 hours.

Of these additional 23 shootings, three proved to be fatal. Breitbart again provided further coverage of the fatal shootings.

The outlet reports:

The first of those three additional fatal shootings was 29-year-old Keishone Roberts, who was shot and fatally wounded Friday at 5 p.m. He was transported to a hospital where he died. Minutes later, at 5:45 p.m., [a] 26-year-old was shot and killed . . .  He was pronounced dead at the hospital. One person was shot and killed, and two others shot and wounded, Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m. The deceased was a 24-year-old man who was shot numerous times and pronounced dead at the scene.

Breitbart News has been covering Chicago area shootings for some time now, and the simple fact is that none of this is particularly out of the ordinary.

Thus far in 2022, 320 people have been murdered in Chicago. Many of these deaths are attributable to shootings, and this is despite the city’s restrictive gun control laws.

Clearly, the city has a problem with criminals, and as common sense would suggest, outlawing guns hasn’t gotten rid of criminals.
