Chicago waitress arrested for spitting on Eric Trump, placed on leave

The state of political discourse in America is truly dismal right now. The discussion has devolved into nearly literal mudslinging.  Eric Trump was a victim of this regression when he was assaulted by a waitress at a Chicago cocktail lounge.  She spit in his face simply because he’s in the Trump family.

Fortunately, the rumors that she was arrested for the stunt are true. The Secret Service jumped into action and placed her in handcuffs immediately following her outburst. The restaurant owners also placed her on leave.

Increasingly hostile behavior

This isn’t the first time that individuals close to or in the Trump administration have been accosted or even physically attacked.

The New York Post reports: “Last year, protesters shouted ‘Shame!’ while Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, ate at a Mexican restaurant in Washington.”

This harassment of officials has been on the rise as leftists turn to violence.

Eric Trump has responded to this assault in a very reasonable manner.

Breitbart reports:

Trump confirmed to Breitbart News that the U.S. Secret Service took an employee of The Aviary into custody following the incident.

He also said that the incident was a “purely disgusting act by somebody who clearly has emotional problems.” Trump went on to reprimand Democrats for encouraging this kind of behavior.

“For a party that preaches tolerance, this once again demonstrates they have very little civility, when somebody is sick enough to resort to spitting on someone, it just emphasizes a sickness and desperation and the fact that we’re winning,” Trump said.

Leftist violence must stop

Some won’t take an official being spit on as a serious problem. But assault isn’t based on the threat to the person, it is based on intent. This woman should face real consequences. However, it seems that she will get off easy this time.

The Chicago Tribune reports: “Trump declined to press charges against the woman, according to The Trump Organization.”

Eric Trump decided to take the high road, but that doesn’t negate the seriousness of this event. The restaurant did the right thing and the employee has been placed on leave, and likely will be terminated.

The left will no doubt justify this by saying that Trump wasn’t hurt, just as they justify the recent milkshake attacks. However, the intent of violence is still there and that is unacceptable.

We must defend civil discourse, if we don’t we will lose this country that we all love.
