Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman's divorce case takes an unexpected turn

 February 4, 2024

Cher's son, Elijah Blue Allman, has successfully obtained the dismissal of his divorce from Marieangela King, following an initial denial by a judge due to a temporary support stipulation.

Allman, aged 47 and the son of Cher and Gregg Allman, had filed for divorce in 2021 after marrying King in December 2013. Despite the initial separation, the couple reconciled amidst legal challenges involving Allman's mother.

The situation

Cher sought an emergency conservatorship for Allman, expressing concerns about his mental health and substance abuse. However, a judge denied this motion.

In a filing opposing Cher's request, Allman revealed that he and King were reconciling and living together. He claimed that Cher objected to their reconciliation and refused to pay his family law counsel.

King, in her filing, stated that she and Allman are living together as a married couple. She described Allman as a brilliant artist, a recovering drug addict and alcoholic.

The hearing

In a recent hearing, the judge ruled against Cher's proposed injunction, stating that Allman has managed his finances, has an apartment, and remains drug-free, supported by submitted drug tests.

Allman, accompanied by his legal team and King, attended the court date, while Cher participated remotely.

Another hearing is scheduled for March 6. Legal documents from September revealed King's accusations against Cher, alleging her involvement in hiring individuals to kidnap Allman in late 2022.

King asserted that she hadn't seen Allman since April, despite efforts to work on their marriage during their divorce proceedings.

Cher's denial

Cher denied the kidnapping allegations in an October interview with People but confirmed the matter's connection to her son's addiction issues.

“I’m not suffering from any problem that millions of people in the United States aren’t,” Cher said.

“I’m a mother. This is my job — one way or another, to try to help my children. You do anything for your children. Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s joy, even with heartache — mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them," she added.

Cher emphasized her role as a mother, expressing the challenges faced by millions of people dealing with similar issues in the United States. While acknowledging the difficulties, she stated that being a mother involves offering support and being there for her children, finding joy in the process.

The family continues to navigate the complexities surrounding Allman's well-being and the rekindling of his relationship with King.
