Former president Barack Obama is leaning into the left's culture wars with an attack on Republican "book bans."
In a preachy and deeply hypocritical letter addressed to librarians, the censorship fanatic condemned efforts to limit the circulation of Marxist propaganda in schools as an attack on freedom of speech and "democracy."
With remarkable unintentional irony, Obama asserted that freedom of speech is essential to the survival of "democracy."
"In any democracy, the free exchange of ideas is an important part of making sure that citizens are informed, engaged and feel like their perspectives matter," he wrote.
Reprising the role of cultural arsonist that he played so well during his presidency, Obama said it's "no coincidence" that many so-called "banned books" are written by racial minorities and members of the so-called LGBTQ+ community.
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. Reading Obama's letter, one could easily be led to forget who's censoring who.
In 2020, Democrats censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, depriving voters of relevant information before they cast their ballots. Democrats continue to demand ever tighter regulation of "disinformation."
Obama would know, being an enthusiastic information cop himself. But now he suddenly recalls that America is a nation "built on freedom of expression."
If America "allows certain voices and ideas to be silenced," Obama asked, "why should other countries go out of their way to protect them?"
Other Democrats, like California Gavin Newsom (Ca.), have stretched reality to portray themselves as champions of political liberty - despite years of escalating political censorship targeting conservative speech.
It isn't freedom of speech Democrats care about, but control - and indoctrinating the next generation. Any attempt to remove anti-American, anti-white, or LGBT propaganda from schools, according to Obama and his Marxist party, is an attack on "our democracy."
Obama thanked librarians for keeping alive the "freedom to read" Marxist propaganda.
"In a very real sense, you’re on the front lines — fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone,” Obama wrote.
