Donald Trump shared what his son Barron was doing when he was told the horrific news that his father had been shot in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump told Fox News' Laura Ingraham - who joined Trump in Butler last weekend for a triumphant return there - that his youngest child was playing tennis when he heard about the attempt on his father's life.
Trump made a heroic return to Butler last weekend, where he spoke behind bulletproof glass and held a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, the brave firefighter who died shielding his family during the July 13 shooting.
A bullet whizzed Trump in the ear, leaving him bloodied. As Trump recalled to Ingraham, his supporters didn't know if he was alive or dead until he got up and raised his fist in an iconic moment.
"I convinced them I thought I was only hit in the ear," he said, referring to Secret Service. "It's very interesting," he recalled. "But they got me up and I watched and it was dead silent, even though I was standing up and in vision because people didn't know I was alive or not, and then when I did the fist pump, everybody realized and they're screaming, ‘USA, USA.’ It was the craziest day. It was a crazy time."
His son, Barron, saw his father's triumphant fist pump while watching at home with his mother, Melania.
"Barron was playing tennis with his friends, and somebody walked over and — ran over — and said, ‘Your father’s been shot. He’s been shot,’” Trump said.
“Barron — and Barron really likes his father a lot,” Trump continued. “And he came in, ‘Mom, Mom, Mom, what happened?’ So, and then they saw me get up, and then they saw the fist pump,” he said.
Trump survived a second attempt at his West Palm Beach golf course last month. The gunman, Ryan Routh, was taken alive without firing a shot.
Barron is attending his freshman year at New York University's Stern School of Business, where he has been under a close watch from Secret Service agents.
The assassination attempt in Butler has rattled public confidence in Secret Service, while leaving Trump and his family concerned for their personal safety.
In an interview with Fox News' Maria Bartiromo, Melania Trump commended her husband's "great team" but speculated that "something is going on at the top."
“It’s hard to say that you trust, right?"

Video of the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally for President Donald Trump during which an assassin tried to kill him has been released by Tucker Carlson.
And according to a report by news.spreely it has gotten attention for showing the chaos that day.
Especially, "when rally attendees noticed an armed individual making his way onto a nearby rooftop," the report said.
Authorities soon neutralized attacker Thomas Matthew Crooks, but not before he wounded Trump.
"Rally-goers are seen frantically alerting Secret Service agents as the situation unfolded. Panicked voices can be heard warning the agents about the man with a weapon, who had managed to position himself in a high vantage point. The tension builds as the threat becomes clearer, and the footage shows the shocking moment when gunfire erupts," the report said.
The report explained, "The footage provides a chilling glimpse into the fear and confusion that gripped the crowd."
Firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed in the hail of bullets, and others were injured.
The report charged the footage "casts a harsh spotlight on the security failures that allowed the attack to unfold. Many are now questioning the performance of the Secret Service on that fateful day, and whether this breach of security could have been prevented."

It's hard enough to prepare for the catastrophic results of something like Hurricane Helene, which destroyed towns, homes, bridges, roads – and lives and families.
But that task turns into, literally, the impossible when there's corruption, gross mismanagement, and politics present.
And it's becoming more and more evident that the help for southeastern states, specifically the hardest-hit regions of North Carolina, is being corrupted by near-insurmountable failings.
Already, WND has reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has spent billions of dollars providing benefits to illegal aliens, and now has confirmed it lacks resources for the ordinary needs of the nation's hurricane season.
Kamala Harris, according to many victims, insulted them with an offer of $750 for the most pressing needs. Joe Biden said in a comment – that was interpreted not to his benefit – the government had given all it had to the victims.
Now there's more.
BREAKING: FEMA whistleblowers have come forward alleging that the agency misappropriated funds in the wake of Helene, withheld pre-disaster aid, and that first responders and service members have been waiting in hotels without deployment orders. pic.twitter.com/uf0XrspRTz

A report at the Gateway Pundit explains multiple whistleblowers already have come forward with complaints about FEMA.
"According to a letter from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), whistleblowers allege that FEMA withheld critical pre-disaster funds and failed to issue deployment orders to first responders, leaving Americans stranded in the wake of the storm," the report said.
It described Gaetz' letter as a "bombshell" to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, for his agency's "failure to release necessary funds and provide clear orders has left 'hundreds if not thousands' of service members and first responders in limbo, as they sit idle in hotels while the southeastern U.S. suffers the devastating effects of Helene."
The report charged that FEMA's credibility is crumbling under "mounting evidence of gross mismanagement."
It was Mayorkas who confessed FEMA "does not have enough funds to make it through the hurricane season."
Whistleblowers, the report charged, have accused the agency of diverting tax funds to illegal immigrants – and "using taxpayer dollars to cover the costs of border enforcement failures," so that no funding is left for Americans hit by catastrophic conditions.
"The Gateway Pundit previously reported that over $1 billion, which should have been used for American disaster relief, has instead been redirected into resettling illegal immigrants through programs like the 'Shelter and Services Program,'" the report said.
Gaetz turned blunt:
"Yesterday, you stated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is a part of your department, 'does not have enough funds to make it through the hurricane] season.' This news comes after FEMA has spent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on migrants due to Border Czar Kamala Harris' open border instead of prioritizing funding for Americans impacted by disasters."
Then he warned that whistleblowers have documented mismanagement, wasted taxes, misappropriate funds and other problems.
Further, FEMA workers for days have been "employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels."
In fact, Elon Musk on social media said he'd heard from a SpaceX engineer helping with rescue and recovery efforts in North Carolina.
That source said the feds actively were blocking help.
"Hey Elon, update here on site of Asheville, NC. We have powered up two large operating bases for choppers to deliver goods into hands. We've deployed 300+ starlinks and outpour is it has saved many lives. The big issue is FEMA is actively blocking shipments and seizing goods and services locally and locking them away to state they are their own. It's very real and scary how much they have taken control to stop people helping. We are blocked now on the shipments of new starlinks coming in until we get an escort from the fire dept. but that may not be enough."
The Gateway Punit noted there even was confirmation, from the left, of the politics influencing help efforts.
"Obama-Harris whisperer David Axelrod, host of the 'Axe Files' podcast, said the quiet part out loud as the Biden Regime blocks ongoing rescue operations in North Carolina. Axelrod said Hurricane Helene victims in North Carolina are mainly Trump voters who will find it hard to vote in the 2024 election," the report explained.
In between laughing at the false claim that JD Vance was wearing eyeliner at the VP debate, Obama-Harris whisperer David Axelrod said on his podcast that Hurricane Helene's victims are mainly Trump voters who will find it hard to vote. Affected Democrats from Asheville are… https://t.co/yIqJWvuomh
— Miranda Devine (@mirandadevine) October 4, 2024
"David Axelrod said affected Democrats from Asheville are 'upscale liberal voters, and they're probably going to figure out a way to vote. I'm not sure a bunch of these folks who had their homes and lives destroyed elsewhere, in western North Carolina, in the mountains, there are going to be as easy to wrangle for the Trump campaign,'" Axelrod said.
Fox News host Jesse Watters blasted the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris regime for failing the hurricane victims.
"Over 200 Americans are dead after Hurricane Helene and the thousands of victims impacted have been disgracefully left behind. The Biden administration has blocked ongoing rescue operations and North Carolina is living in the dark ages because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris hate Elon Musk. FEMA is now out of money, because Joe Biden and Kamala spent over a billion dollars of FEMA cash on migrants. Illegals got luxury hotel rooms, but Kamala's just tossing Helene victims $750 and heading back on the campaign trail. This must not meet her standard for giving extra resources – she only wants to do that based on equity," he said.
Meanwhile, FEMA said the "help" it would offer would extend to "non-citizens."

The Gateway Pundit commented: "As Americans suffer through the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, and communities in North Carolina continue to search for over 200 missing loved ones lost in flooding, there is a glimmer of hope for non-citizens. If you are one of the millions of non-citizens that the Biden-Harris regime granted asylum to, you may qualify for FEMA aid."

A newly released congressional report reveals that the United States is facing 1.7 million "threats" because of the open borders practices of the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris agenda.
The Democrats, on taking office, immediately trashed dozens of executive orders from President Donald Trump that has raised the level of security along America's southern border, and were working to minimum access by illegal aliens, and more.
The result has been millions of those illegals crossing into the U.S. and now demanding benefits from the taxpayers, at a cost that runs into the hundreds of billions of dollars.
It was the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement that released "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: At Least 1.7 Million Potential National Security Threats."
It explains how under "border czar Kamala Harris' watch," the threat from "special interest aliens" has grown exponentially.
"Under the Biden-Harris Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has encountered more than 1.7 million special interest aliens – meaning aliens from 26 countries that DHS has determined pose the greatest national security and counterintelligence threats to the United States. The special interest countries include Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Syria, and Turkey," the report explained.
"In another instance of the national security threat posed by the open southwest border, the Biden-Harris Administration released Mohammad Kharwin, an illegal alien on the terror watchlist, into the United States twice. According to media reports, Kharwin is an alleged member of Hezb-e-Islami, a group that was responsible for attacks in Afghanistan that killed at least nine American soldiers and civilians. Although a terrorist watchlist record was created for Kharwin in 2018, a name discrepancy in the record meant that Border Patrol agents released Kharwin into the country in 2023 despite suspecting he was on the terrorist watchlist."
The report said, "The terrorist threat to the United States has skyrocketed due to the Biden-Harris administration's dangerous open-borders policies. As just one example, of the more than 250 illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist who were encountered by Border Patrol at the southwest border between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, [the Biden-Harris Department of Homeland Security (DHS)] has released into American communities at least 99, with at least 34 others in DHS custody but not yet removed from the United States," the report said.
Worse, though, is the fact, "the Biden-Harris administration has sought to conceal the real consequences of its disastrous policies. In September 2024, a former senior Border Patrol official told Congress that he was ordered to 'not release any information' on the increase of special interest aliens—aliens from countries considered to be a threat to national security or counterintelligence—'or mention any of the arrests' because, in his words, the Biden-Harris administration 'was trying to convince the public there was no threat at the border.'"
The report noted, that in addition to the "more than 1.7 million special interest aliens" that have been identified, the Democrats have allowed in illegals from China, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
"In addition to releasing into the United States illegal aliens who the Biden-Harris administration knew were on the terrorist watchlist at the time of their release, the administration also has released illegal aliens into the country that it only later confirmed had potential terrorist ties," the report said.
Congress wrote, "This interim staff report highlights how potential national security and counterintelligence threats from around the world have exploited the Biden-Harris administration's open-borders policies. There can be no doubt that the surge of illegal aliens into the country during the Biden-Harris administration has weakened our national security and made our communities more vulnerable to those who seek to do us harm."
This story was originally published by the WND News Center.
The Biden-Harris administration has orchestrated its open border practices to set up circumstances that are costing American taxpayers in the range of $150 billion to help aliens, millions of them illegally in America.
Per year.
And that's left coffers dry when citizens, facing the loss of everything because of Hurricane Helene, need a hand up.
The anger over the decisions at the executive level in the federal government that allowed that situation to develop is more than simmering: Sometimes it's erupting in outright rage.
It was Newsweek only months ago that estimated the "ongoing border crisis" under the Biden-Harris mismanagement was seeing 5,000 illegals released into the U.S. per day.
The costs? Estimated at $150.7 billion for just one year.
Now a member of the Biden-Harris team is pointing out, in a report in the Daily Caller News Foundation, that there's no money left to help Americans hurt by Helene.
Specifically, the report noted Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas now is complaining to the public that the Federal Emergency Management Agency gave more than $1 billion for a special migrant help program over the last two years, and "now it is running out of cash for disaster relief."
The report said Mayorkas' department continues giving "humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants" even though resources are running short for Helene victims.
It was Kamala Harris who has just announced that the government will be coming to victims' aid with checks … for $750.
Meanwhile, FEMA's disbursements through a "Shelter and Services Program" show it is dishing out cash for "shelter, food, transportation, acute medical care and personal hygiene supplies" for illegals.
"Let's go and point out the obvious which is that FEMA had utilized a large majority of the personnel who should be here taking care of this to be replaced or repurposed for immigration resettlement when we need to be focusing on Americans whether it be in Maui, Palestine, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, or Tennessee," Republican Florida Rep. Cory Mills said.
That report charged that FEMA alone actually spent more than $363 million on migrants in just 2023.
But from Helene, so far, there have been reports of 191 fatalities and entire communities wiped out because of the destruction from the category 4 hurricane that came ashore just a week ago.
Damage estimates are beyond $35 billion.
Mayorkas now announced, "FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season."
The report noted under Biden-Harris, FEMA also has spent money on "climate resilience," "racial justice trainings" and "diversity equity and including studies."
The Blaze reported Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other officials now are demanding the Biden-Harris political machine put Americans first.
The report noted Joe Biden "has suggested that Congress might have to approve additional funding for disaster relief. While the DHS might soon enjoy another cash injection, critics have raised the matter of where the original funds went — realizing that much of it was blown helping illegal aliens who have stolen into the homeland under Mayorkas' watch."
The report said, "FEMA's shelter and services program is a prime offender, providing financial support to non-federal entities to provide humanitarian services to noncitizen migrants following their release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The intent is to support CBP in the safe, orderly and humane release of noncitizen migrants from short-term holding facilities."
Abbott said the solution isn't complicated.
"This is easy. Mayorkas and FEMA — immediately stop spending money on illegal immigration resettlement and redirect those funds to areas hit by the hurricane. Put Americans first"
And Rep. Tim Burchett, from Tennessee, which was hit hard by the storms, said, "FEMA spending over a billion dollars on illegals while they leave Americans stranded and without help is treasonous. U.S. citizens are dying. Pray for our country folks."
"Let me translate: 'We are racking up trillions in debt with all the money that our money printer prints that we then take back from law-abiding American citizens like you but we exist to spend it on anything other than helping you,'" explained Blaze News editor in chief Matthew Peterson."
Chad Prather, who is host to a broadcast show, said, "We have a government that not only hates us but wants us dead."
The rage was not even hidden any longer.
One man posted online a video in which he stated, "Kamala Harris, we don't want you here … She's gonna give the people in the mountains 750 f—— dollars? You can take that money and go wipe you're a– with it!"
Another commenter said, "The anger simmering just beneath the surface in Americans is starting to reach a boiling point."
One man's online rant warns, "Kamala Harris, we don't want you here. We don't want your party here in North Carolina. If you're a Democrat and you live in North Carolina, good for you. But this woman is given illegal immigration, Haitians, more rights to be entitled to be called American, thousands of dollars in food stamps, loads of money in their pockets, and she's going to give the people in the mountains $750 dollars. You can take that money and go wipe you're a– with it, Kamala! These people, if they choose to stay there and live and to rebuild, they really need government assistance. They really need the food stamps. They need the checks put in their checking account every f*—– two weeks so they can survive and provide for their families."
The Gateway Pundit said, "FEMA will only give the suffering families $750. They blew too much money the past few years resettling Kamala's illegal aliens. It should be clear by now that the Democrat Party does not care about American citizens. You're on your own, North Carolina and Tennessee."

The Democrats in America already have established themselves as the "party of violence."
They've repeatedly called GOP nominee President Donald Trump a "Hitler" and called for him to be destroyed, put in a bull's-eye, and "extinguished."
The violent rhetoric may have contributed to two recent assassination attempts against Trump, and other threats to his life.
Now that reputation as a "party of violence" is being reaffirmed, with a report that Kamala Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, allegedly "forcefully slapped" an "ex-girlfriend for flirting with another man."
It is the Gateway Pundit that reported: "Party of Violence: Kamala Harris's Husband Doug Emhoff Accused of Assaulting His Ex-Girlfriend After a Film Festival, Leaving Her Sobbing in a Cab."
The Daily Mail detailed that "three friends" have confirmed to the publication Emhoff "assaulted his ex-girlfriend."
"The Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, 59, allegedly struck the woman in the face so hard she spun around, while waiting in a valet line late at night after a May 2012 Cannes Film Festival event in France," the report said. "One of her friends told DailyMail.com that the woman called him immediately after the incident, sobbing in her cab, and described the alleged assault."
The reports come just weeks before voters in America will decide whether to leave the White House in Kamala Harris' hands for the next four years, to continue Joe Biden's inflation, which has totaled more than 21% since he and Harris took office, the weakening of America's foreign agenda, and the all-out advocacy for transgenderism and abortion for all.
The DailyMail.com said it was not identifying the woman, "Jane," "a successful New York attorney."
The report said the three "friends" all explained that "Jane" had told them of the violence.
"The friends, who all asked not to be named for fear of retaliation by Emhoff, shared with DailyMail.com pictures of him and Jane together from 2012, and other documents and communications corroborating elements of the story."
The allegations are in shocking conflict with the image, pushed by the Harris campaign, of Emhoff as "benevolent" and "an ally to" women.
"Jane," contacted by the Daily Mail, declined comment.
The publication, however, earlier had reported "that Emhoff cheated on his first wife and mother of his two kids around 2008, allegedly impregnating his daughter's nanny who also worked as her grade school teacher."
Emhoff admitted to that situation.
The publication documented, "In a fawning interview on Sunday, MSNBC host and former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki told Emhoff that he 'reshaped the perception of masculinity' – despite his admitted affair with his daughter's nanny and teacher."
Jane told her friends she got tickets to the gala event in France, and took Emhoff.
A New York businessman told the publication of a call from Jane.
"It was hard to hear her because she was sobbing. She told me she was with a guy and he hit her. It was very clear what she was telling me. She said she was with a guy, her date, she was at the Cannes Film Festival, and he hit her. She was in the car with the guy at the time. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know whether to call the French police. I couldn't get a hold of her after calling back."
The incident was from 12 years ago, before Emhoff met and married Harris.
The businessman described what he was told: "It was something like 3 am. They were trying to get out of there and they both had been drinking. There was a gigantic line for taxis. [Jane] went up to one of the valet guys, offered him 100 Euros or whatever, to get to the head of the line. She told me she put her hand on his shoulder. Doug apparently thought that she was flirting, and came over and slapped her in the face."
Jane reported the incident caused a break between the duo.
A second account said Jane wanted to leave Emhoff behind at the cab stand, but he "forced himself into the car, which she did not want."

JERUSALEM – Iran's former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave an interview Monday to CNN Turkey in which he said Tehran established a special intelligence unit to hunt down Mossad operatives working in the country. Astonishingly, he said the person recruited to head up this elite unit was himself discovered to be a Mossad agent.
Furthermore, the alleged Mossad agent employed up to 20 Israeli agents to work alongside him. Based on Ahmadinejad's account of facts that had been reported earlier, these agents were responsible for a number of intelligence operations inside Iran, including one of the more spectacular ones of recent years, namely the squirreling out of the country of a half ton of highly classified information about the depth of Iran's lying to the so-called international community, and the reality of its nuclear program.
It was thought that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's presentation of this evidence to then-President Donald Trump was instrumental in the United States' decision to pull out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Barack Obama had so forcefully championed.
"Israel organized complex operations inside Iran. They could easily obtain information. In Iran they are still silent about this. The man who was in charge of the unit in Iran against Israel was an Israeli agent," he said. Ahmadinejad claimed the double agent at the head of the intelligence unit and all the other operatives are currently living in Israel.
In addition to the theft of the nuclear documents, several high-ranking Iranian scientists – including the person considered "the father of the Iranian nuclear program," Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, were eliminated. In Fakhrizadeh's case, the November 2020 hit was apparently carried out via a remotely operated computerized machine gun, which required no on-site operability. However, it is assumed the people who assembled this weapon and placed it in a position most beneficial to taking out the nuclear scientist were at the time on the ground, and are now assumed to be members of this special intelligence unit.
Ahmadinejad, whose term of office ended in 2013, was replaced by Hassan Rouhani. The latter's former chief of staff – former intelligence minister Ali Younisi – admitted in an interview in 2022, "The Mossad has infiltrated many government departments in the last ten years, to such a degree that all the country's top officials should fear for their lives," according to Ynet.
There are such fears about the depth of Israel's penetration into Iran's intelligence and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) establishment – particularly following the July elimination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a Guard Corps property – that long-time Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei has been moved to a secret location out of concern for his well being. It is not clear how the people entrusted with either protecting him or the knowledge of his whereabouts are not either compromised in some way, or may indeed be Israeli operatives themselves.
It is not certain why Ahmadinejad has decided to air this information again now, except the timing of it coalesces into the broader picture of just how much intelligence Israel has on Iran, and its Shiite Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah. Although Ahmadinejad has already served as Iran's president, it did not stop him from throwing his hat back into the ring for the most recent round of (s)elections – in which Masoud Pezeshkian was victorious – and occasioned by the helicopter crash which killed incumbent President Ebrahim Raisi in May.
Until two weeks ago when Hezbollah was hit by the stunning "Grim Beeper operation," which simultaneously wounded, maimed, or killed thousands of operatives, including those of the IRGC, it was widely assumed the helicopter Raisi was traveling in had indeed plowed into a mountainside as a result of poor weather conditions. However, some more conspiratorial minds have suggested Israel's intelligence agency may have had a hand in this, too – although, like the beeper operation, it is not something they would publicly acknowledge.

A family wrongly targeted by a violent SWAT-style raid from the federal government is fighting back, and trying to hold accountable those officers who picked their home, instead of the correct one, and broke in waving guns and threats.
The Institute for Justice explains it was before sunrise one morning in Atlanta that Trina Martin and her seven-year-old son, Gabe, and her partner, Toi Cliatt, were bludgeoned with a flashbang grenade in their living room, and violent attack by FBI agents.
"Toi, fearing that the home was being robbed, pulled Trina into the bedroom closet and reached for his legally owned shotgun. Just as he was about to grab it, an FBI agent barged in, threw him to the ground, and began interrogating him and Trina. All the while, Gabe was separated from his mother as officers stormed into his bedroom with guns drawn," the IJ documented.
But when Toi gave agents the address of the home they had just violated, it didn't match the address on the warrant they had.
Now, the Institute for Justice is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to revive their lawsuit for accountability, which has been thrown out by the lower courts, the IJ said.
"My son was alone in his room, trembling in fear with an armed agent standing over him. Those are memories neither he nor I will ever be able to shake. Gabe transitioned from being a happy, active, and outgoing child to becoming timid, introverted, and living in constant fear. This experience made him acutely aware of death, as he repeatedly expressed that he believed he was going to die. What happened to us was wrong, but there's been no accountability. This shouldn't happen in America," Trina said.
One of the FBI agents did apologize, but the government simply refused to pay for any of the damages, which insurance ended up covering.
But the government still refused to cover costs from the trauma inflicted on Trina, Gabe, and Toi—including lost wages and therapy.
They sued.
And for seven years, the government has fought any efforts to hold responsible those so negligent they couldn't even find the correct address.
"The FBI can't undo the damage it caused by raiding the wrong house, but the government needs to pay for its mistake," said Dylan Moore, an attorney at IJ. "Congress created the [Federal Tort Claims Act] to give people like Trina, Gabe, and Toi a remedy. Courts should not do backflips to read that remedy out of existence."
In fact, Congress specifically recognized situations such as this unwarranted attack.
But lower courts have refused the family members' rights.
"FBI agents don't have discretion to raid the wrong house. And doing so certainly does not further any federal policy. Other courts have recognized this. Had Trina, Gabe, and Toi brought their lawsuit in most other circuits, the discretionary function exception likely wouldn't apply at all," the IJ said.
The 11th Circuit created its own ideology and went the other direction.
"The federal government made a terrible—albeit easily avoidable—mistake when it kicked in an innocent family's door," said Patrick Jaicomo, a senior attorney at IJ. "The Supreme Court should take this case to ensure that the government, not the innocent family, pays the price for the mistake. Congress could not be clearer that it should."
West Virginia State Senator Mike Maroney (R) is being asked to step down by the West Virginia GOP after being arrested on a drunk driving charge which is his second arrest in two months.
Maroney, who's been serving in West Virginia's Senate since 2016, has been on a spiral lately with multiple serious offenses.
Maroney was arrested on Monday and charged with Control of Vehicle Under the Influence, Expired Registration-1, and No Registration. The traffic stop was initiated due to “numerous traffic infractions,” by Maroney.
This comes after Maroney was arrested last month on a charge of indecent exposure which led to him being stripped of his position as chair of the state Senate Health and Human Resources Committee.
Maroney is already on his way out as he lost the Republican primary in May, and his term is set to expire in January but the West Virginia GOP wants him gone now.
Maroney's troubles began back in 2019 when he was arrested for soliciting prostitution but that charge was eventually dropped.
However, it seems that his solicitation charge was indicative of a pattern of bad behavior as he has now been charged with a DUI and indecent exposure.
His indecent exposure charges are related to an incident where Maroney allegedly engaged in an “overt act of sexual gratification” in a gambling parlor in Glen Dale. A gambling parlor doesn't make for the most dignified haunt for a state senator indecent exposure charges aside.
Ethan Moore, chairman of the Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee, issued a statement saying, "While the legal process must take its course, the perception of impropriety and the repeated legal entanglements surrounding Senator Maroney have brought discredit to the West Virginia Senate."
Moore continued saying, "We believe it is in the best interest of Senate District 2 and the state for Senator Maroney to resign, restoring public trust and the integrity of the Senate."
So far, there is little sign of Maroney resigning his position early which could set up a nasty fight between West Virginia's GOP and Maroney as he tries to hang onto the last few months of his term.
The Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee has passed a resolution calling on Maroney to resign and should he refuse, they are requesting Governor Jim Justice (R) intervene.
Justice is seeking a U.S. Senate seat and has the ability to empower the State Senate to expel or censure Maroney should he refuse to resign.
It's possible that Maroney believes that since he hasn't been convicted for his latest charges, there is no need to resign. It is also unlikely that he will be convicted anytime soon but the rest of West Virginia's GOP power players aren't content to let the legal process play out.
A Secret Service agent called a toll-free number to get technical support with a drone system prior to the July 13 attempt on Donald Trump's life in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to a damning Senate report.
There were numerous opportunities to stop shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, but Secret Service somehow fumbled each one of them, according to an interim report from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
The Secret Service agent in charge of operating the Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) had little experience, and he called a toll-free number to troubleshoot the drones, which remained inoperable for several hours.
Meanwhile, the Secret Service denied requests for additional drones, even as Crooks used his own personal drone to scout the rally site before the assassination attempt.
Trump survived by turning his head just in the nick of time, leaving him grazed in the ear. Crooks killed a rallygoer, Corey Comperatore, and critically wounded two others.
The Secret Service first became aware of a suspicious person 27 minutes before the shooting, but they failed to stop Trump from going on stage. Two minutes before Crooks pulled the trigger, Secret Service knew a suspicious individual was on the roof of the AGR building.
A counter-sniper also saw local police with guns drawn, but did not think to notify Trump's protective detail.
The Secret Service counter-sniper team was placed at the rally in response to a "credible intelligence" of a threat, the report said, noting that it was the first term a counter-sniper team has ever been provided to someone who is not the president, the vice president, or a major party nominee. Trump was nominated the Republican candidate for president days after surviving the shooting.
Perhaps most critically, the rooftop that provided Crooks with a clear line of sight was not secured, despite local police raising concerns.
As the Senate committee put it, the failures were "foreseeable, preventable, and directly related to the events resulting in the assassination attempt that day."
Weeks after cheating death in Pennsylvania, Trump was targeted a second time by a would-be assassin in Florida.
The Senate unanimously passed legislation this week to enhance security for major presidential candidates, but without some serious reform, Trump - and the public - unfortunately cannot have confidence that he is safe.
