Letitia James, a high-profile Democrat who used her position as New York attorney general to build a wild case against President Donald Trump that accused him of fraud – a case now on appeal – since then has been caught up in her own case in which she's alleged to have committed mortgage fraud.
And Adam Schiff, a high-profile Democrat, claimed that he had seen "evidence" of the 2016 Trump campaign's "collusion" with Russia, even though multiple investigations failed to document that "evidence," and also has been caught up in mortgage fraud allegations.
While those cases remain under investigation, with the possibility of fines and jail times for a conviction, one Republican senator has had enough.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, believes public officials should be held to a high standard, and pay a bigger penalty when convicted.
He's introduced the "LETITIA Act," which would raise the mandatory minimum penalties for such officials, according to Fox News..
His enhanced penalties would be applied to public officials "who commit federal bank fraud, tax fraud, or loan or mortgage fraud."
His "Law Enforcement Tools to Interdict Troubling Investments in Abodes (LETITIA) Act" follows Depar\tment of Justice investigations into James for alleged mortgage fraud.
Federal Housing Finance Director Bill Pulte has alleged James could have engaged in mortgage fraud by lying, or making false statements, on property records, such as a loan application that said her property in Virginia "is her primary residence," as well her claim on government paperwork that her Brooklyn property has four units, when it actually has five.
"This legislation would empower President Trump to hold crooked politicians like New York's Letitia James accountable for defrauding their constituents, violating their oath of office, and breaking the law, and I'm proud to lead my Republican colleagues in introducing it," Cornyn said.
Also in the jurisdiction of Cornyn's plan would be Schiff, who was accused by Pulte of falsifying bank documents and property records by listing homes in Maryland and California as his primary residence out of an effort to allegedly get more favorable loans.
A spokesperson for Schiff, who repeatedly and viciously has lashed out at Trump, said the claims about mortgage lies are "false allegations."
Six other senators have joined Cornyn already in sponsoring the bill.
It would "increase federal statutory maximum sentences and fines for public officials who abuse their offices and violate the public trust to commit bank fraud, loan or mortgage fraud, or tax fraud," the report said.
Those minimums would include one year for bank fraud, one year for loan or mortgage fraud, and six months for tax fraud.
Repeated offenses would make those minimums five years for bank or loan fraud and two years for tax fraud, the report said.

The white woman who was viciously pummeled by blacks in Cincinnati last weekend is now speaking for the first time, while a black pastor in the city is calling for the white victims of the beatdown to be arrested and have their mugshots made public.
"I just want to say thank you to everyone for all of the love and support," said Holly through tears.
"It is very humbling that to have your prayers, your blessings. It's definitely what's keeping me going. And you have just brought back faith in humanity. So God bless you all and thank you.
"I appreciate everything that you're doing for me and my family. It's been very, very hard, and I'm still recovering. I still have a very bad brain trauma. Thank you. Thank you everyone."
A GiveSendGo account has been set up to help Holly, whose last name has not been provided, and it has already raised nearly $160,000.
Pastor Damon Lynch of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Cincinnati is now urging the arrest of any white person who may have started the violence, even if he or she were a victim.
"Nobody's asking, why didn't he just walk away?" Lynch said at a news conference with city officials and leaders.
"When I see the mugshots, I only see people who look like me. I don't see the person who re-engaged, slapped not the initial person, but slapped another black man. So I don't see the slapper's mugshot."
"This is racial, because it is unequal justice. And so until we see all the mugshots, this is still a racial issue."
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval agreed with Lynch, suggesting even those who were beaten could face charges.
"I agree with Pastor Lynch, that there is no doubt that this public safety challenge, that this incident will require further investigation, further charges and further arrests for every single person involved," Pureval said.
"The investigation is ongoing, and I expect that we will have more charges and more arrests as the investigation proceeds," the mayor added.
"This was an awful incident, and our law enforcement has been working quickly and effectively to bring all responsible to justice."
"Let me be clear there is no place for violent crime in Cincinnati, whether it's a fight or gun violence. We will pursue those responsible and we will hold them accountable no matter who they are."
As WorldNetDaily reported last week, Cincinnati City Council President Victoria Parks said the victims "begged for that beat down!"
Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, spoke with journalist Benny Johnson about the incident, with the senator saying the city has suggested the woman beaten is a Russian asset.
"So [CNN's] Jake Tapper, who knows about this story, flagged it for him, decides not to cover it at all, Can you imagine just for a split second if the races were reversed?" Moreno asked Johnson.
"Jake Tapper would be living in Cincinnati. He would be covering this story 24/7. The breaking news alerts would be on all the time. Can you imagine if somehow we said, 'Oh that person is some sort of criminal alien from some country like Haiti. They would slaughter us."
Johnson responded: "We all are aware of what the reality would be if a bunch of young, white men hunted down elderly black couples at a country music festival. And then everybody stood around and cheered and filmed it as the couples got beat within an inch of their lives. It would end the country as we know it. Every major city would burn."
U.S. Track and Field superstar Sha'Carri Richardson, an Olympic gold medalist, may be faster than most of her competition, but she can't outrun the law.
Richardson was arrested last Sunday and charged with domestic violence following an altercation with her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, USA Today reported.
The arrest and criminal charge is just the latest career blemish for the world champion sprinter, who was infamously disqualified from competing in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, which she was heavily favored to win, after she tested positive for marijuana use.
The Associated Press reported that, according to a copy of the police report, the 25-year-old track star Richardson was arrested Sunday evening at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and spent the night at the South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, before she was eventually released shortly after noon on Monday.
Per the report, a Transportation Security Administration supervisor notified local police to the situation after they witnessed Richardson in a prolonged verbal and physical altercation with her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, after they passed through a TSA checkpoint.
A responding officer reviewed surveillance camera footage and similarly observed Richardson making repeated physical contact with Coleman, including yanking his backpack and shoving him into a nearby column. She is said to have continued to make physical contact with Coleman and get in his way even as he repeatedly attempted to walk around and away from her.
Richardson also reportedly threw a set of headphones at Coleman, who later told officers that he "did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim."
In response to questions about the arrest, the U.S.A. Track and Field organization said that it "is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter."
Richardson's arrest for domestic violence last Sunday did not stop her from competing this week at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, according to AFP.
The 100m world champion was on the track on Thursday for preliminary heat races and advanced to the semifinals round on Friday, but later withdrew herself from contention for the finals.
She remains automatically qualified for the upcoming World Championship event in September in Japan, however, given her status as the current defending world champ.
USATF said that Richardson still intends to compete in Sunday's 200m event, though, after initially withdrawing from and then reentering that race.
USA Today noted that Richardson, after missing the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games because of the positive marijuana test, returned to the world stage with a vengeance and something to prove in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she earned a silver medal in the 100m along with a gold medal as part of Team USA's 4x100m relay squad.
According to the AP, she also won the 100m event at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Strzok, mistress Page, sued when their government emails were released to public
During the height of the Russiagate scandal created by Democrats in an attempt to undermine President Donald Trump's first term, an FBI agent was working on the bureau's attacks.
And Peter Strzok had an email exchange with his mistress, Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer, and they reassured each other that Trump would not be allowed to win the 2016 election.
He did, and their conspiratorial emails became public knowledge as part of the many investigations into those schemes.
They sued, claiming their emails were private, despite being done on government time and with government resources, and one official agreed, approving a $1.2 million settlement with Strzok and an $800,000 payment to Page.
Now a report in the Federalist reveals that the official signing off on those payments was Brian Netter, a deputy assistant attorney general.
And he now has left the government, revealing his political agenda by joining a group called Democracy Forward, a Democrat party-affiliated group launched specifically to fight Trump with lawfare.
"The group brags that it took Trump to court more than 100 times in his first term in office. It has continued its use of the courts to win political battles into his second term in office," the report said.
The report describes Netter as one of the "disgraced Russia collusion hoax participants" who left the Department of Justice to help lead the "legal resistance" to President Donald Trump and other duly-elected Republicans.
"[W]e have identified Brian Netter, Deputy Assistant Attorney General as the individual that approved the settlement agreements," a DOJ official told the Center to Advance Security in America, the report said.
That organization had filed a Freedom of Information Act request in 2024, when the payouts were publicly announced.
Democracy Forward is led by Marc Elias, the lawyer who's known for schemes to damage "the integrity of both the 2016 and 2020 elections."
In fact, the report explains he "signed the checks for [Hillary Clinton] campaign's Russia collusion hoax."
The report notes he also was active in fighting Trump during the aftermath to the Jan. 6, 2021, protest and riot at the Capital. He was with Merrick Garland's DOJ from 2021 through 2025, and opposed Trump's motion for a preliminary injunction to block National Archives releases to the partisan panel ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set up to "review" those events.
The members hired television experts to stage specially selected "evidence" and present it to Americans in an effort to persuade them that Trump was an "insurrectionist."
The report noted Netter also married Democrat lawyer and activist Karen Dunn, who was a key player in the campaign by the twice-failed candidate Hillary Clinton.
Dunn also was integral in Democrat operations for Barack Obama and another failed candidate, Kamala Harris.
"Congressional overseers were upset by the reward given to the hoaxers and demanded to know who signed off on them," the report said. "They were thwarted by officials who said they didn't know who had authorized the payments, and declined to respond to congressional inquiries to find out."
James Fitzpatrick of the Center to Advance Security in America called the payouts "a prime example of the outrageous abuse of power endured by the American people under Joe Biden."

Suspect identified but motive for violence under investigation
A least four people, possibly six or more, have been killed in a mass shooting at a bar in Montana, according to multiple reports.
The suspect was identified as Michael Brown, 45, of Anaconda, Montana, and he remains at large after what apparently was a high-speed chase in which he fled in a stolen pickup truck.
NBC reported the "multiple fatalities" and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, confirmed the shooting happened at a business, identified as the Owl Bar.
Local media reported the gunman used a "7.62 assault style rifle," and there were 4 to 6 confirmed victims.
The Gateway Pundit said, "The sheriff's office for neighboring Granite County said a suspect was at large. The sheriff's office said on social media that the suspect was wearing a tie-dye shirt, blue jeans and an orange bandana."
The suspect's home already had been searched by a SWAT team, the report said.

An insider in America's intelligence community who now has turned whistleblower says he refused to concur in the manipulated intelligence assessment created under Barack Obama that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help candidate Donald Trump, and immediately was excluded from further discussions.
Further, his concerns about the falsehoods being pushed by that agenda were ignored, he said.
A report in the Washington Times cites the whistleblower, unidentified, in explaining he was pressured by his Obama administration superiors to go along with the staged arguments.
Evidence being found in newly declassified documents suggests that Hillary Clinton fabricated the Russiagate scandal for Trump because of concerns voters would remember her scandalous behavior when she put national secrets on an unsecured computer server she set up.
The documents also suggested the campaign to fabricate claims of links between Trump's campaign and Russia was aided by Democrat officials from Obama down.
More information has been promised, and multiple Obama-era officials already have been referred to the Department of Justice for investigation and possible charges.
The Examiner reported the senior U.S. intel official confirmed he was pressured to endorse the false conclusions created under the anti-Trump scheme, and then he was cut out of discussions.
The report said he was a deputy national intelligence officer at the National Intelligence Council from 2015 to 2020.
"I was pressured to alter my views," the whistleblower said, regarding a "coordinated push" to rally behind the messaging that Russia and Trump were colluding.
His testimony was released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who has been working to declassify government documents from the Obama administration that show attempts to undermine Trump's presidency.
According to the report, "The whistleblower said he objected to framing the Russian operation as a bid to help Trump, rather than a broader attempt to sow discord and distrust, which was the intelligence community's view until after Trump won the election and Obama ordered a new assessment. The whistleblower also accused colleagues of omitting the role of other foreign nations, including U.S. allies, in attempting to influence the electorate."
He said he found out later that the discredited Steele dossier funded by the Clinton campaign had been integrated into an intel community assessment of Russia's attempts to influence American elections.
He also reported being told to conceal from the National Security Council evidence of intercepted communications, instructions that he said came as he was working under then-DNI James Clapper and then-CIA Director John Brennan.
He said he discussed issues with a special counsel, but the complaints apparently never were forwarded.
The Examiner reported the comments are just "the latest in a string of disclosures by the Trump administration as it seeks to expose what officials now describe as a deliberate campaign to weaponize the intelligence apparatus against Trump during the transition period in late 2016 and early 2017."

A state senator in Ohio has now released a photograph of a woman who was brutally beaten in an attack in Cincinnati, an event that has left behind a scandal for a politician who viciously claimed the victim "deserved" the beating.
It is U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno who released the image of the victim, identified only as Holly.
"This is Holly. She wanted to have a nice evening out with friends. Instead, she got this. Holly gave me permission to release the photos so that others will never suffer what she did," the senator explained.
A city councilwoman, Victoria Parks, said on Facebook that the victims of the attack "begged for that beat down!"
Several suspects have been taken into custody. But also released, according to a report from Fox, was a recording of the 911 call asking for help.
The report said, "A dazed-sounding man called authorities around 3 a.m. on July 26. The call lasted three minutes and 15 seconds, as the 911 operator asked a litany of questions, including how many people had been involved in the fight. It was placed after the brutal beatdown had ended, the caller indicated."
The caller stated, "At this point, everybody's running out, so it was before, about 20, 30 people, but everybody's out."
He insisted police still should come.
Police chief Teresa Theetge said of the 100 or so people there, the man made the only call to 911.
Video of the attack shows a mob punching and stomping on two victims.
Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Dekyra Vernon, 24, were arrested Tuesday night and now face felonious assault, aggravated riot and assault charges.
A third, Jermaine Matthews, was charged with aggravated riot and assault. Two others also were arrested.
WND reported Vivek Ramaswamy, Republican candidate for governor, said he spoke with the victim, and described her as a single working mom who went to a friend's birthday party.
FOX19 reported the incident may have been sparked by "racial comments."
"An anonymous witness reported that the situation started several minutes before the fight shown in the videos," the station reported. "The footage captured a man, who, according to the witness, seemed to be intoxicated.
"The witness says the man walked away, but returned about 15 minutes later with a group of people who were overheard making racial comments."
Vice President JD Vance on Monday was horrified by the perpetrators' actions, and urged law enforcement to "throw their a**es in prison."
"I don't know how the fight started, but the one part that I saw that was really gruesome is you had a grown man who sucker-punched a middle-aged woman. And from where I come from, at least, when you have a grown man who sucker-punches a middle-aged woman, that person ought to go to jail for a very long time," said Vance.

Urgent calls for the firing and arrest of a top Cincinnati councilwoman emerged Wednesday after she allegedly said she was "grateful" for the vicious pummeling of white citizens and that "they begged" to be attacked.
"They begged for that beat down! I am grateful for the whole story," is attributed to Victoria Parks, president pro tem of Cincinnati City Council, in a comment thread discussing Saturday's violence in which a mob is shown horrifically hammering numerous white people.
"Cincinnati Councilwoman Victoria Parks needs to step down. So does the Cincinnati Police Chief. They are both defending criminal behavior," urged one person on X.
"These people are absolute lunatics," said journalist Eric Daugherty, as he notified the U.S. Justice Department about the remarks.
Other comments online include:
"This should be an immediate termination condoning and supporting this kind of attack."
"So you sanction a beating because he did what … ? Breathe? Or you just know he deserved it? And I'm sure the woman is equally guilty."
"I hope the victims sue this hag."
"@PamBondi please start arresting these public officials for crimes against people."
"Thank you Barack Hussein Obama for setting race relations back to 1870."
Fox News reported the FBI has now opened an investigation into the attack, as three of the five suspects charged in the mayhem were arraigned Wednesday.
Those appearing in court were Dekyra Vernon, 24, Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Jermaine Matthews, 39, who face charges including felonious assault and aggravated riot.
WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported: Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Connie Pillich "made a strong statement after watching video from the fight that has been seen by millions across multiple platforms."
"In order to dissuade people from committing these types of offenses, I'm going to throw the book at them," Pillich said.
Parks announced in January she will not be running for reelection, according to WCPO-TV.
"Upon completion of this term, I will retire and hang out with my grandchildren and nieces and nephews," Parks said.
"I look forward to picking up kids from football practice and piano lessons, volunteering on boards and spending my money on plane tickets. I have worked since the age of 14 and at the end of the year, I will reap the benefits of my work life."
Parks has not responded to WorldNetDaily's request for comment.

FBI Director Kash Patel found a trove of sensitive documents related to the origins of the Trump–Russia probe buried in multiple "burn bags" in a secret room inside the bureau, reports Fox News Digital.
The FBI reportedly uses the "burn bag" system to destroy documents designated as classified or higher.
According to Fox's sources, one of the documents FBI officials found in a burn bag was the classified annex to former special counsel John Durham's final report, which includes the underlying intelligence he reviewed.
Once the annex is declassified, it is scheduled to be turned over to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who reportedly will release the document to the public.
"Ultimately, the release of the classified annex will lend more credibility to the assertion that there was a coordinated plan inside the U.S. government to help the Clinton campaign stir up controversy connecting Trump to Russia," the source told Fox News Digital.
"Mere days after this intelligence was collected, the FBI launched Crossfire Hurricane," the source said. "It's really hard to see how Brennan, Clapper and Comey are going to be able to explain this away."
In a June interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, Patel said that he found a room full of documents and computer hard drives "that no one had ever seen or heard of."
"Just think about this," Patel told Rogan. "Me, as director of the FBI, the former 'Russiagate guy,' when I first got to the bureau, found a room that Comey and others hid from the world in the Hoover Building, full of documents and computer hard drives that no one had ever seen or heard of. Locked the key and hid access and just said, 'No one's ever gonna find this place.'"
According to Fox News, the most recent discovery of documents was pursuant to an investigative request from Grassley.
The senator has requested Patel give him information related to Durham's probe. Durham was appointed after then-special counsel Robert Mueller completed his yearslong investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe – including intelligence community malfeasance during and in the aftermath of the 2016 election.
As the Gateway Pundit reported, part of Grassley's request is for thumb drives that contain unreviewed evidence in the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
Amuse on X wonders who it is within the FBI that tipped Patel off to the existence of the burn bags and hidden room, calling him or her an "unknown hero."

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said California Democrat Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi "should be investigated" for insider trading of stocks.
His remarks came as he was asked a question about legislation introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., that bans members of Congress from owning or trading individual stocks, with it extending to the president and vice president. It's dubbed the PELOSI Act, an acronym for Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments.
"I like it conceptually," Trump began noting he would have to look into it more.
"You know, Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information," Trump continued. "She made a fortune with her husband and I think that's disgraceful."
"What I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated. She has the highest return of anybody, practically, in the history of Wall Street, save a few. How did that happen?
"She knows exactly what's gonna happen, what's gonna be announced. She buys stock and then the stock goes up after the announcement's made. And she ought to be investigated."
Trump echoed sentiments expressed by popular podcaster Joe Rogan on Monday, who indicated: "Nancy Pelosi's the head witch."
"There's like a system and they all get funded, and they all make sure that there's this kind of crooked system that will allow someone like Nancy Pelosi who – what does she make like $200,000 a year? She's worth $150 million! How the f*** did that happen?" Rogan wondered.
"If insider trading is illegal, how the f*** is it legal for her husband to make all these purchases of stock right before these giant deals came out that she negotiated? And then he gets this windfall and they get insanely wealthy! Over and over and over again!
"And there's no investigation into it, there's no talking about it. It's f***ing wild, man, It's wild sh**. And they think Putin's a mobster. What are YOU?"
